XBOX ONE controller not working...HELP

I have the game for a week now and I still haven't played 1 minute of it because my controller is not working. I've read all the controller issues thread and tried everything without success.

I have Window 7 with a xbox one WIRED controller , everything works perfect for all my games except for this one.

- I tried with and without big picture
- I tried reboot and various steam exit
- I tried all combination possible of controller setting in big picture (force on , force off etc )
- I tried starting the game as admin , starting steam as admin
- I tried with and without 360 CE
- I tried to start the game with controller unplugged and the opposite
- I read all post about controller in reddit and in here and tried even more "fix" that I listed here, I just can't remember

If somebody has a solution that would really be welcome , I'm a big fan of the serie and I'm really sad not to be able to experience the game while there's a lot of people playing it....

Please don't just tell me to get a refund because I don't want one, I just want to play the game. and I already have hours of gameplay logged anyway when in fact it's just me being in the menu trying to get it to work !!!!

Probably the usual issue, you have "phantom" controllers installed. Souls games can only use controller number 0.

Unplug controller, open device manager, enable hidden devices in menu, right click and delete every single controller entry. Then reboot, connect you controller and get it installed. Game should work then.

Thanks for sugestion , when I unplug then go to device manager ,show hidden and look everwhere I already don't have any controller entry...

I have the same problem but with a wireless xbox 360 controller. I have tried all of the same fixes as well. I even deleted the game and reinstalled it because the controller worked 2 days ago in this game.

use ccleaner after uninstall to remove stuff from register. Then reboot and try again.

I'm having the same issue. Xbox One Elite Controller not working. Works with basically every other game I've played with it. No extra controllers showing in device manager.

They're under sound devices or whatever. The game controllers part is for legacy directinput controllers.

I don't know about OP, but there's nothing labeled as a "controller" of any kind under there even when choosing to view hidden devices.

Same issue, and when I do get it to randomly work if I even bump my keyboard I'm f***ed and can't use the controller anymore. This is extremely stupid issue for an old game that really didn't get much of an update.

yeah I feared you would say that, that's why I said I looked everywhere...I only have audio stuff in there.
When I unplug my controller , it disapear from deveice manager , I then make sure to have "show hidden device" and when I check everywhere (including non plug and play drivers folder) there's is no controller anything sadly....

Mine has never worked even once...I see a bunch of post saying "sometimes it works sometimes not etc" or "it was working day one and stopped working..."
I end up thinking I wish it was me lol coz I haven';t even been able to try to game yet , this is very frustating

Have you tried disconnecting your controller, booting up Dark Souls, then connecting your controller?

yep didn't work . tried to launch the game without controller and plug it in the menu and nothing...tried to start the game with controller plugged and nothing...

steam is recognising my controller fine , I can use it in big picture no problem , but when I start the game then nothing (and in the game menu I do see the xinput )
I tried all setting from bigpicture as well as the controller option directly from steam without using big picture....

Yeah. My controller works in Big Picture mode, in a bunch of other games launched within Steam, etc. Haven't had any issues in the two years I've had this controller until this game. My PC doesn't show any other controllers connected in Device Manager or the Devices and Printers screen. It's weird and kind of ridiculous that this game has a controller issue like this.
