You also climb slightly faster holding B as well.
Also you can fall off them with very little poise damage done to you aka stagger damage

You could always slide down ladders. You cannot climb faster like in DS2/DS3 though.

You have to press B (or the equivalent of) while still on a ladder to shuffle down faster. There is no faster climb-up, though.

Best to just let go of the ladder and fall.
