Does weapon upgrade level affect the summon sign range?
Or is it just levels like in the original?

As far as i can tell and from what ive heard via twitch its just like the old game, where only SL matters and you can go newb stomping with +15 gear.

Not really doing it for the invasions. I just hate having to constantly watch my weapon upgrades so I don't over level and never get summoned or summon someone else.

The truth is that no one is exactly sure how it works. You definitely can't drop certain things to fresh characters, but it isn't confirmed whether or not equipment affects matchmaking.

Ooof that sounds really bad for random coop actually. But not much different from what DS3 does.

It's complicated. People are still running experiments, but it does seem like weapon tiers make a difference.

I don't think that is legit though. I think even the developers would realise that is the worst possible thing they could do. With that mechanic you will pretty much seperate the whole playerbase.
