How good are the graphics?
How are the graphics of this game compared to Dark Souls 3? If someone has played both games on 1080p max settings, please list your observations. Thanks in advance.

They are not at the level of ds3. They are DIFFERENT from original ds1. You may find that some look better, and some look worse. Personally I think the game looks better as a whole, particularly the new visual effects and the lighting. But it does not look the same as it did. It's mostly a sidegrade rather than upgrade or downgrade. Also it doesn't run like ♥♥♥♥ so that's nice.

it's the dark souls 1 style with updated textures. not as good as dark souls 3 and bloodborne's graphics, but it's still very pretty. the new gold pine resin effect is really cool too

The main difference to the original DS, for me, are the particle effects. As was mentioned, the gold pine resin, the new fog walls, the fire on the torches at the walls - they look en par with what the newer Soulsborne titles have to offer.

The textures are more or less the same as they always were. I can't see any changed textures like the poster above me does, they just seem to be rendered in native 1080p and not in the previous 480p.

The AA feels smoother and less ressource-hungry, which makes the whole game look a bit 'younger' but not quite on the level of the current console generation. The 'plastic armor' effect is noticable to a point where you ask yourself where all the light that is reflected off your shield even comes from.

All in all, it is an upgrade, but as the textures which make up like 90% of what you see ingame haven't changed, the overall impression is: better than it was, but not on the level of DS3 and Bloodborne.

I've played both Dark Souls (Prepare to Fix edition) and the Remaster on max graphical settings, and I can tell you this.

If the original was a priceless painting, this remaster is the result of fervently scraping the varnish off the canvas. They unleashed the FULL POTENTIAL of all the textures in the old game, without retouching the overall look. This means that one object will be fár more detailed than another. Fire especially is easily recognised as a texture (except in the cases of Blighttown torches in which case they're burning like Lord Souls), which comes to the forefront especially bad in the Quelaag fight.

The fire textures stick out of her back, never reacting to her motions. It's like she has a backpack of fire textures stuck to her. And then when she pulls out the sword, you can see the texture repeat itself multiple times during her swings. I don't know why but they removed so much of the 'vagueness' of the original visuals that it's ugly.

To top that all off, your character sticks out of your surroundings like a thorn. Forget feeling like you're blending into a mystical world, you're in a level playing a game to beat a boss and the game won't let you forget. EVERY NPC and enemy has a whitish shimmer to them for which I cannot find any causal light. This means that in complete darkness even the dirtiest, unshiny enemies will still shimmer almost brightly.

I was secretly hoping for this Remaster to be a decent touchup, at least competing with the original. Now I'm sad they've thrown the beautiful version in the bin. Waiting for DSFix again...

Thanks for the replies. I have not played the first or second DS, I just played a bit of DS3, and it's graphics were good. I read that the graphics of DS1 and 2 were not good, hence I posted this discussion. What is DSfix BTW?

It was a mod for the PTDE of dark souls 1 on pc that allowed you to change resolution, added some graphical improvements(I think), and allowed unlocked fps. However, going past 35fps in that version would cause various things to break, and more broke the higher you went.

I personally prefer the graphics of DS1 over DS3, but this was true even before the remaster. DS3 always looked pretty washed out to me. DS1 is more abrasive in general.

People who are calling this remaster a downgrade must be mentally ill, or just blinded by hate. It's honestly unbelievable how ignorant some people in the souls community are.
the ♥♥♥♥ are you talking about the game know looks like bland ass dark souls 2 as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2eos3V7jTI
