Controller not working

I can't get my controller to do anything in the main menu. It works in the original dark souls prepare to die edition, so I wonder why I cannot use it here. Is there anyone who's had a similar issue that's found a fix?

HAHA I found the answer! It seems the game has to either be an administrator mode, or be running on compatibility for windows 8. I just did both and it's working, so see if that works for you!

How do you start the game in administrator mode? Right-clicking the game icon doesn't show me any option to start it in administrator mode.

have to go to the actual folder itself.

Try going to settings->Controller->General controller settings->applicable controller and then running the game in big picture worked for me until i hit the home key to go to other screen. but hey working is working right

Ok, I've found the exe file in Steam\SteamApps\common\DARK SOULS REMASTERED, and ran it in admin mode. But then I got an error saying "Failed to initialze Steam". I''ve also tried what Zaevan recommended.. no avail! Weirdly, it works just once after each reboot. I have to reboot my PC whenever I launch DSR!

Im in the same exact situation, every time i reboot it works, but when the game is closed and re-opened my controller will not function :(

If you're on windows 10, attempt to run it for compatibility for 8 or 7, make sure the game is fullscreened, don't use big picture mode (doesn't work for me), make sure the game is set as administrator. I use the Xbox One Elite controller, and connect it with the Xbone controlelr Wireless Adapter that came with my oculus rift, but can be found for 20 dollars.

do not alt tab away from the game.

Be sure to look at the directory. Steam folder can be found in either program files, or program files(84x) or appdata.

I use a different internal HDD for a lot of lower end games that do not require modding or an SSD.

what worked for me was to turn off the controller settings in Steam.

Start big picture mode,
Click on the gear (settings) at the top right,
Click on "Controller Settings",
There should be 6 checkboxes, the only one that I have checked is the first one, "Guide Button Focuses Steam".

That has worked for me, give it a shot
