upgrade path for the great club

so im about to start a new play through i and im going to use strength weapons and was primarily going to use the great club with my end goal being smoughs hammer for fun. I was wondering would it be better to upgrade the great club to plus 15 and let it scale off strength at an A scaling or should i make it lightning. Which would do more damage.
I was going to call the build "back to the kitchen" or "giant MUM"
