If you get frequent summons it's probably faster by doing bosses but if not you can always get them from there as well.
Also your number of kills could potentially be way off. There is a 25% chance a basilisk will drop an eye but that doesn't mean you'll get one within 4 kills. You could get it on your first kill, but you could also get in on your 8th kill. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't be too fixated on the Nr of kills (especially for the crow demons, could take quite a bit longer).
As an update. Scratch Forest Hunter, the Ring of Fog can be gotten from snuggly and a divine blessing from Rhea/etc:
0 kills - Cat Covenant Ring
1 kill - Divine Blessing
3 kills - Ring of Fog
With what you said and what I found about Forest Hunter, doesn't look like you need to be online at all. Covenants provide different ways to play multi-player, but their rewards maybe better gotten offline. Like you said, it does really depend on how much you get 'summoned.'
Sunlight seems faster to level up when you play offline, downside is I must have 25 Faith to get into the covenant. If my final build for the game didn't plan on 25+ Faith it's better to play online at least until I can join the covenant. But to rank up, it's better offline. You get 1 Medal from Lautrec, 3 from Anor Londo, up to 5 from Solaire (need to spend humanity to be human). But Solaire is bat crazy, must've been all that staring at the sun. I seen him run into bosses and just spam R1. If he dies during the fight, I don't get a Medal from him.
So I only *need* to grind 1 from Chaos Bugs (12% drop), there's 9 bugs there to grind, but it'd be better to grind up to 6 Medals to cover Solaire. It's 2 minutes from bonfire to killing all 9 bugs, average says you get 1 medal per run. It took me about 10-15 minutes per summon to get 1 medal, 6 medals would take 60-90 minutes online or 12-24 minutes offline.
Update, for Eyes of Death, I can't buy any from Patches as he becomes a merchant after killing Nito. I can't upgrade the Gravelord covenant if Nito is dead. No matter, must farm 4 from Basilisks, they're a common drop and can be found in a couple places. I got my 4 after running through the basilisks in the Depths 3 times, no gold serpent ring.
I'm scared about farming the crows and drakes, but I bet it's way easier than farming most of this soft humanity I got. No way I'd be grinding that if I wasn't 1-shotting everything with a BKH.
There are 5 rats on the right side where the great axe is and I think 4 or 5 rats a bit further ahead. Homeward bone back and repeat.
Went through the upper Depths for 2-3 hours, clearing out the slimes & hollows, got 10 large tits, 9 green tits, 10 soft humanity.
So far, the fastest soft humanity I got was from Undead Parish. The Sunlight bonfire, you can lightning spear the 3 hollow soldiers on the bridge and get back to the bonfire in 15 seconds or so.
Yeah any farming you do for drops really should be done with the gold serpent ring, even for common drops it makes a big difference.
Soft humanity isn't affected by item discovery So if you don't have the covetous ring that's probably best for you at the moment.
You mean from the sprites before the fight with manus? Might be a bit further than where he's at right now, but would indeed be a great place to farm.
Side note: You can go there after after killing Ornstein and Smough, very early on. Or learn how to dupe the Fire Keeper soul.
Thanks for the replies. No doubt when I get to the DLC I'll try farming there.
I'm at 60 humanity right now heading to blighttown. If I could see in Tomb, I could've gotten the white ring when I was down there getting the 3 Eyes of Death and saving Rhea. Can't get the maggot head until after Queelag, there's no miracle that provides light, I'm at 8 int and can't cast the light spell (requires 14 int). I know, it's a bad excuse, I simply don't know the Tomb well enough to do it without light or to use the Skull Lantern and not get killed.
FYI, getting 10 soft humanity in Undead Parish would take under 60 minutes if you had a ranged nuke by that point. It might even be under 30 minuts. Doing this run, I'm learning the routes that give you soft humanity the fastest, ironically that route in the Depths was the fastest, I was 1-shotting the slimes via Combustion and a +8 pyro glove.
With max item drop, how long does it take to farm 10 humanity from the DLC Abyss?

Hard to tell but enemies there do not drop anything more, so the drop chance is high as well as You can get twinhumanites(I'm not sure if those enemies, bigger humanites, are one time spawns). The humanities(enemies) are easy to kill and there are lots of them. Usually for me, in the spot near black sorc, I had something around 5-10 humanites per run with standard gear.
I went back into Tomb to get the white ring.
If you're getting 5-10 humanity per run, then me farming soft humanity anywhere is dumb. Luckily there's Undead Parish to farm it which would contribute towards the 30 humanity needed for Chaos Servant (before you can get the gold ring).
In the wiki and videos I found it states you can not speak to Frampt after you get the lord vessel.
Frampt appears much earlier than that.
Can you talk to Frampt before you get the lord vessel and still join the covenant?
