What do I have to do to make the bridge dragon disappear?
What do I have to do to make the bridge dragon disappear? At the original Dark Souls, I just shot him with a bow and arrow and the dragon flew away for the first time. But with the remastered version that does not work, the dragon just does not leave the bridge. I have somehow never managed to kill him, although I've played through Dark Souls several times.

Then go into the small area to the right where the Sunlight Alter is. Standing here will cause him to retreat to his perch, then he will fly away. This will get rid of him for a while, but he can come back, usually triggered by coming back through the area where you first meet Solaire.

3. Kill him. Use the cover on the right again, wait till he comes down then attack his feet. This however is very dangerous as he will likely use his fire attacks and they are very hard to avoid on the bridge. To mitigate this try only attacking him a few times then retreating to the stairs, then let him retreat to his perch then do the same again. He has a decent amount of health and hits very hard, so if you want to kill him you should come prepared (high damage weapon, something defensive to deal with his fire attacks).

stand on bridge in the middle at the area of the stairs, wait at the safe spot on the side where the fire doesn't reach you. Be patient, at some point he will come down and land on the bridge to fight you, but you just run into the doorway he was guarding and immediately pull the switch on the left to open the shortcut (and be invincible during the switch animation...). Dragon should leave now but will return but that doesn't matter - you have now the shortcut and the bonfire

He usually goes away, if you sit on the bonfire near the Sunlight Altar. He never truly goes away that way, though. But he should be gone, if the bridge is entered from the Sunlight Altar, but re-appear again, if entered from the Undead Burg.

What i like to do is "cut" his tail off with bow and arrows under the bridge. Takes a while, since he always flies up, if you shoot the tail and then you have to wait for him to sit down again to have another shot.
Then i just hit him with it. If you're under the bridge, go up the stairs, immediately run around and behind the stairs to take cover behind a wall, since he'll shoot fire at you. Now shoot him, with an arrow to lure him on the bridge and immediately swap to the Drake Sword and start running to where he's landing (it's always the same spot). Hit him twice and run to the stairs and under the bridge again. Repeat this like 5 times or so and he'll truly dissapear, cuz he ded.

Many thanks for the help! The dragon sword I had already received, through the experiments with bow and arrow. At some point I also remembered that the dragon regenerates, if he got too much damage. It's been a while since I played the original Dark Souls.

It was actually so easy in the end to lure the kite and then walk past it. If I could have come up with it myself, I'm not. Therefore, many thanks to all who helped!

I have no ambitions to kill the dragon, as it is not important to the gameplay. Maybe I'll try it at the very end after I beat Gwyn. Hopefully. : D

There are two safe spots at the bridge (for 1 set of situations only, as far as I know and tested).
1 - when you go up the stair, circle the stair and stay behind the wall, the fire will not take you there, but then the dragon will "eventually" come down.
(found out by accident, when I saw I would not make it to the stairs, tried to hide behind the wall).
2 - the two "full-stones" by the side of the pillar (the pillar by the side of the dragon foot, stones of the protection wall at the bridge) are a safe spot.
If the dragon spit fire, the fire will not damage you there, but take care, if the dragon turn around, it can either attack you with the tail or leap backward to set you on fire, so, you just run back to the stairs and try to repeat untill it is dead.
(I tried a hit at the dragon foot then it jumped up . . . I know what the dragon would do and I just walked a bit backward and accepted my fate . . . but I did not take any damage).

Doing it you can kill the dragon without taking any damage and work for any weapon (sure, the lower your damage, the longer it will take to die).

To cut the tail, on a next playthrough with new char or NG+, you can notice when the dragon walk through the bridge his tail goes clipping under the bridge and you can hit it. It clips at the other stair you use to get there.
When you see the tail showing up, it will vanish through the wall but will show up again, if you time it right, you can cut the tail from there.
