No Controller Support?
I just got this game, I'm a long time big Dark Souls PTD fan. My controller I use for PC, an xbox one controller, is for some reason not being recognized by the game. I launch PTD edition, controller works fine, I launch Borderlands, controller works fine, I launch DS Remaster and I am getting nothing. What's worse, I go to the controller part in options and it just spams left/right back/forth between the options for no reason, I'm not even inputting mouse of gamepad control and it's spazzing out, I have no idea why. Anyone have any insight/help? Thanks

Open the "Settings" in the corner menu "Steam". Select the "controller" tab and there click the button "General controller settings". In the opened window in the "Big Pic" style check the box "XBOX CONFIGURATION SUPPORT". Close the window. Next in the list of games, right-click on Dark Souls Remastered and select "Properties". There at the bottom will be the item "Steam Input Per-Game Settings". At this point, select the "Forced On" option. Run the game and play on the gamepad. And if you need to fine-tune the gamepad, dead stick zones, etc., then the Right mouse button on the game and the item "Edit Steam Controller Configuration" =)

This was the only time I could, since the games themselves decide whether to play a gamepad, or not =)

I have the same problem, with a generic third-party controller PS3-knockoff that works 100% with just about any game I can throw at it, but not this one. What works for me is rebooting Windows with the controller connected and then running Steam and then magically this game works with the controller. Weird, but that's how they roll.

open game in big picture mode, boom controller support.

Try this, go to game folder, open propertis of dsr exe file, compability, set win 8 and run from administrator, after this go in big picture mod, controller setting and set Guide Button Focuses Steam, and xbox one controller, and try to play from bigpicture.

Well I got it to work just by updating xbox drivers (if it even updated I have no idea) and restarting my computer.

They never fixed this? I got it working somehow when the game first came out, but can't remember how. Companies that do this crap should be held accountable legally. They say on the product page that it needs a controller and then it doesn't work... How is that being honest?

i have the same problem. don't listen to these trolls that make it seem like you're the one who's at fault here. honestly this bug is pretty ridiculous and demonstrates the developer's lack of attention to details..

I run the game as administrator and it seems to work for me. the only downside is that external keybinds (like if you use push-to-talk for discord) will not work while dark souls has window focus.

I got it working by control alt delete and then hitting cancel.

That worked for me, thanks. Using Switch and Xbox360 controllers.
I also noticed it worked after restarting my computer but I'd rather not have to resort to that if I can avoid it.

Go into the games directory, delete everything. Verify game files. After that do what TEN said to do. Also try unplugging your mouse and keyboard, or even testing to see if the controller works properly. I know you said it works on PTDE but it's always worth a shot.

If none of this works there's one final thing you can do that I know works. Install a software that can emulate a 360 controller from any controller. Then setup your controller buttons on the xbone to the 360. Bam 3rd party controller support.
