It's possible your friend is thinking of DS2 Scholar, where enemy placement is radically different (and usually easier) than classic DS2.
The only noticeable difference in PTDE and the remaster, is that in the remastered edition there are bugs to the AI, so at very rare times they will just stand there or do something goofy like walk off a cliff. Nothing game-breaking and definitely not common, but it happens from time to time. Occasionally an NPC will just sit there and watch you (Havel did this to me recently.) One time the Moonlight Butterfly flew away from the fight completely. Other than those rare bugs, not one iota of the enemy placement or behavior is any different from the original.
98% of the items are in the same places with very slight changes.
So the game is almost the same BUT.
There is the quality of life eg. you can consume multiple soul items at once and no longer need to eat them 1 by 1,
The frame rate is stable and it is 60 so it has much less input lag so it responds better.
You can now play Blighttown at 60 fps versus 10-20 fps so it is much easier.
So indirectly Remaster is very slightly easier due to added quality of life.
THIS THREAD IS WILL BE OLD ENOUGH TO ATTEND PRIMARY SCHOOL BY THE END OF THIS YEAR. SEE YOU ALL AT THE FIRST SCHOOL DAY CEREMONY.
