Well, it seems to run fine on my steam deck. Only played a few minutes but everything seems to work.

Yes, there are problems with this game right now on the Steam Deck. It looks like Proton 8, 9, Experimental and GE as of Aug 2024 can't run Extinction correctly out of the box. The game display is squashed vertically (extreme letterboxing you might say) and only the first two items of the main menu can be selected (so you can't get into the options to fiddle with screen settings).

The solution is to run the game with Proton 7.0-6, which has the correct aspect ratio and does let you choose all the main menu items. When I checked the screen res settings under Proton 7, it said "800x1280", so I think the game under later Protons is confused because the Deck's screen is a portrait device, not landscape. Saving the settings at 800x1280 with Proton 7 broke the aspect ratio like the later Protons, but it was easy enough to correct it to 1280x800 again.
