here are some answers to your questions:
1) Chuck Edmund's journals provide a lot of clues about the identity of the murderer. As you can't find the second journal that early in the game (you're only able to read the first journal), I don't think there's a reliable way to find out the truth at that point. Let's say that things are not what they seem.
2) Yes - in Hard Mode, if you walk around long enough, the toiler paper can dry by itself. In Casual Mode, the paper always dries by itself before you put it in the BloodTron.
3) The chapters are the same in both modes (so the game doesn't stop after the arrest when playing in Casual Mode). The difference is that Casual Mode is missing some areas of the game and also some puzzles, therefore the overall play time is much shorter.
