In short, I managed to get both Apocalypse Bird and WhiteNight killed in one day. I then used the memory repository from the menu. I had both of their gear with me.
Then I restarted from day one, and I still had the gear. Huge success!
So the answer to 1 is yes. Also, I used Helix of the End to kill WhiteNight (three times, in fact), and the answer is yes there, too.
As for 2, I can't say for sure, because ultimately my strategy had one person survive to the end. However, from what I've read, using the memory repository should still save the gear as long as Apocalypse Bird and WhiteNight are killed, even if everyone's dead.
I did read that you have to use the memory repository from the menu, though, not from the pop-up that appears at the top when all of your agents are dead. No idea if there's any truth to that, but mind as well mention it if anyone wondering about the same things I did stumbles upon this thread.
