Need help understanding: Cogito (MAJOR SPOILERS)

I've been doing in-depth research on the game for a while since the Lore of Lob Corp and PROJECT MOON's world is interesting, but I've come upon something of a sticking point: What exactly is cogito, "The Well" and "The River".

During the Extraction Team days, Binah gives us quite a bit of info on how the whole process of Extracting Abnormalities and E.G.O equipment works, with a very confusing analogy. Here's essentially what I've gathered from Binah's speech(es):

-The Collective Consciousness of humanity is a "River"--essentially a pure and physical form of thoughts, ideas, and stories that have repeated through humanity (E.g: Red riding hood, The Wizard Of Oz, or even the concept of religion). When Binah mentions the River being the origin of humanity, I am assuming she is being metaphorical and saying that the River is what gives humanity Consciousness and thus is responsible for humanity and all that it has done in an indirect fashion
-The River is a very real thing that exists; and can be accessed through "Wells"; I'm not sure what exactly this means, but I think I remember either Binah or someone else in-game mentioning that The Black Forest--where the 3 bird abnormalities come from--had a rip in space-time that acted as a portal directly to The River; and so I assume that these Wells are portals leading directly to the River
-Since the River is Consciousness in liquid form, it can be extracted from "Wells" with "Buckets"; From my understanding, a Bucket is essentially a person or object that can "extract" cogito in some form. I'm not completely sure on this, but I assume it's more metaphorical than a Bucket literally having to climb down a Well and scoop cogito from the River, considering that Carmen is apparently a Bucket and, well, I don't see her doing any climbing.
-Cogito injected into humans allows for the extraction of that person's ideas into a tangible form--AKA: E.G.O Equipment. Binah talks about this a bit, stating how people naturally know how to wield E.G.O Equipment, but that they haven't really learned how to wield a weapon because they're just "Borrowing someone else's ego (Ideas)"--I assume she is reffering to the process of extracting cogito. As an unfortunate bonus, Cogito injected into humans forms Abnormalities sometimes--but I'm not sure why
-As ANOTHER unfortunate side effect, sometimes when cogito is extracted through a Well, they (Binah and the rest of the Extraction Team) pull up something else--The Ordeals. Binah is pretty vague on what the Ordeals ARE exactly, but she does seem to imply they are different from Abnormalities--stating that they come from some sort of abyss beneath the River, and that Abyss contains infinite probabilities of things--things from the past, present, future, or from places that will never happen.

Now, If I am correct in all of the above (I am most likely not) then there are some things I need help with:
-Binah during her discussion with Nathan (The employee that managed to see inside the Well and survive) asks him about the "people in the well". After Nathan collapses, Binah goes on to explain that the people inside the Well are "The ones who dream good dreams" and that they are ancient--implied when she mentions how the texts on the pillars in the Extraction team room call these people "the well". How exactly do these people act as "the well"? where do they come from? Are they the same ancient humans Binah mentions when she talks about "the River"? How is cogito related to the Well, and what does Carmen have to do with this--we know she generates cogito, but she's also reffered to as a "Bucket", so what does she have to do with the Well People?

TL;DR: I really need someone to explain to me how cogito works, what a "Well" is, how Abnormalities and E.G.O Equipment are created, and how Carmen relates to any of this. Thanks.

Binah and Abel use a very cryptic way of explaining how they tap in the subcontinent. They essentially use a figurative bucket to pull out an abnormality, EGO or Ordeal from the pillars of the Extraction Team. At least that is what I remember being told from a long lore explanation. Someone who knows the lore better then I will probably fill in the gaps.

Cogito (Latin for 'I think,' its also a conjugation of 'cogitare' meaning 'to think') is the 'Bucket'? or they way that allows the figurative 'bucket' to travel from the river to the real world. Abel and Binah were always confusing and leave you with more questions then answers.

Reference lines: "We found a method to siphon from the primordial sea which had every possibility of humanity; past, present, and future. (picture changes from 1 cogito to a couple) If everyone had a bucket of their own, they would be able to draw their own water from their individual well." (Abel day 47 : lines 19-20)

I think I was right the first time, the "Bucket" is Cogito, the "Well" is a big black ball and the "River" is the collective subcontinent of humanity

Ah! That makes a bit more sense. So the Bucket part is a metaphor; they're basically just saying that they use cogito to draw out ideas/fears as abnormalities. From this I assume that the "Well" is essentially the human mind; it's the "entrance" to the River of consciousness; more specifically: only some people (or rather their brains) are sufficient enough to act as entrances to the subconscious of humanity. I was wondering why Carmen was being referred to as a Well at certain points, and this helps. Although, that still leaves the question of why the hell there are people inside the Extraction Team pillars. Are they just random employees that happened to fit the bill of a "Well"?
