It seems to mainly happen when it "crashes" the game as you click on it during play too many times. Like once or twice or a few times is safe, and "only" kills/panicks your employees (a great way to do a quick reset vs a certain annoying abnormality), but repeated clicks make it "crash" the game. There might be some chance it "saves" the game as all employees are dead/panicked and crashes, thus losing all their gear. Probably some bug they never quite finished, not sure if it always triggers, or just rarely.
So, i dunno, maybe only put expendable (or unequipped) employees in the facility when you decide to click it, so nothing (of value) is lost potentially? (Edit: Or make a backup of your save file, perhaps? It should be some of the files in "C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\LocalLow\Project_Moon\Lobotomy".)
Or my favourite, click on it while still in the pre-game/preperation screen, it has a um, unique effect there. Same rule as in-game, too many clicks = crash. But this ougta be a safe way to unlock it's name and class without gear loss, too.
(On that note, be wary of using the "memory repository" (AKA go back to last checkpoint) option, it saves everything as it currently is, then it goes to the checkpoint, meaning you lose gear from any dead employees, but on the bright side, any recently-obtained information/gear/etc you get to keep. Wouldn't be suprised if the button uses a similar mechanic, hm...)
I know everything about the button already (this is why I would back up files first)
I also don't plan on keeping the button, the moment I snap in the backups the button would be gone
I literally just need my own footage of me finding the button and pressing it for a joke
I can't take footage from anyone else cause that's infringement
Everything else I've been playing blind, which has been a lot of fun.
I figured that if there are save files then there's probably one small line of code that says something like:
"slot 23 = punishing bird"
and then all I'd need to do is change any slot with button on save files to get it
At this rate I could literally just request the save files from anyone that happens to have that stupid button for me to use...
