The first node I chose to bind was a medium node. I got +7 mana per turn and +5 per turn more (from the quest). And I also got a research boost. It cost me 440 Mana. That seems worth it.
The next nearest node was also a medium. At 440 mana to get +7 mana a turn, that takes 63 turns to break even. Is that worth it?
You need to be clever about it - drain and bind - drain some nodes to bind others, drained nodes quickly regenerate and this can give you a lot of mana in short order.
A tip: place a single unit army of your cheapest type at nodes to re-drain them once they reactivate.
