Program hangs and refuses to start fix/general issues fix

The details say the DRM is removed however, the program will not start while certain programs are opened that view this program. To find out what program is stopping the startup of the game, run "Resource Monitor" in search. Inside Resource monitor, select RTK.exe and right click to bring up option menu. Select "Analyze wait chain". In this window select the program that under RTK and end the process. This should startup the game.



Some poeople will get tracks error. Update the "RTKRONDOR.INI" with the line "TrackDir=C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Return to Krondor\Tracks\" to the right location.

Some people will have problems with the Logo screen. Paste bellow into the "RTKRONDOR.INI". The important line is LogoViewed=1

The game has visual issues.
Try using different version of the dgVooDoo 2 wrapper and place the DLL in same directory as the RTK.exe. Version 54 worked for me.

Might have to duplicate D3D8.dll and rename copy to "atiumdag.dll"



DEP interference
-Open Control Panel ->System -> Advanced System Settings
-On the Advanced tab click Performance Settings...
-Data Execution Prevention tab
-Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those i select (you want this selected)
-ADD RtK.exe which should come up as Game Engine for Return to Krondor (tm)
-Apply




Nvidia drivers screen conflict
disabled Nvidia Share




Odd lag or crashing durring book creation
set compatibility of RTK.exe to XP Service mode 3 or older "win 98 and run as administrator"

Rundll32 problem or internet connection issue with windows 7 or older
Just start "run" through the control panel, then type "regedit", run it, and find:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\GameUX\Service Location

There will be "Games" parameter. Change it's volume (https with something) to "localhost". Now restart your PC




Black screen issue
RESET/ DISABLE RESOLUTION UPSCALING:
For Nvidia graphics users:
- Try disabling DSR:
I) Open NVIDIA Control Panels
II) Select 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings
III) Find DSR - Factors, and disable it.

For AMD graphics users:
- Try disable AMD Virtual Super Resolution:
I) Open AMD Radeon Settings
II) Select Screen tab.
III) Find Virtual Super Resolution option and disable it.

Run compatibility for older widows. XP or older
install the dgVooDoo 2 wrapper into game directory
