RTK crash game asking for .trx file
game crashes right before you get up to where Jazhara is waiting for you

an error occurred while trying to read the game file:
.trx
the game requires this file. This problem may be corrected by reinstalling the game. Yada Yada insert cd-rom....

I have preformed the steam file check all files are good to go, uninstalled, reinstalled twice. Anyone got suggestions?

I'm running Windows 10 and have inexplicably been getting the same issues mid-game. Checked integrity, removed and reinstalled. Same thing. Lots of the same question showing up in Google searches. No answeers.
I tried this just now: (1) delete the game via the Steam interface, (2) delete Steam download cache, and (3) reinstall game. It even deleted my saved games. Time will be the test of whether this works. I also sent a Facebook message to Activision. Maybe they'll answer. We'll see.
Activision does not support the game. No luck there.

nope nothing ive tried worked, so got my refund and bought it on GoG. works PERFECTLY.
I hate to say that I'll have to go to the competition, but in this case I'll give it a try.

@james_7897 -- You're right. GOG worked perfectly. I still had to run it in compatibilty mode, but I notice that the suggested OS was Windows 7 instead of XP SP3, so there's something significantly different. Hey Steam management -- you reading this? I still don't want to go to the competition, but in the end I want a product that works. If you don't want us to jump ship, then fix the product. :)

Got the same error. Tried this and it seemed to fix it. In rtkrondor.ini, change the
TrackDir=.\Tracks\ line to TrackDir="D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Return to Krondor\Tracks\". Should go without saying...use your own steam path. Doing the file integrity check will revert the ini file to it's original state, so if the trick helps, you'll need to add the adjusted line back.

in the games directory there is a file called UpdatePaths.bat run that and it should change the paths for you.

Worked for me after the problem started happening out of nowhere.

I think I will just get this game on GOG(when it is on sale) even though it is on sale on steam. Older games tend to work there better.

Can confirm that in 2022 this is still an issue and setting the file path in the INI file does not fix it anymore. Also can confirm that the GOG version plays without an issue.
