Anyways, if your server is public, they should be able to find it in the ingame Server List for the appropriate mode (there's very few servers, so finding it shouldn't be a problem). Alternatively, they can join via right-clicking you in the Steam friends list, and selecting "Join game". Also, if you're playing with mods, both of you need to be playing Moddable mode.
The address it's looking for is *probably* your public IP address, which you'd have to look up online (Try looking for "What is my IP?" on Google). That said, I've never used Specify Server in Serious Sam 2, because the game *also* has a server list, which you can find behind "Find match"; Just leave all the filters on "Any". As a note, there are no private servers in this game like in future games.
There's a reason why there's only ever a handful of server hosts, they don't work well. Just take it as single-player game.
Also, it's funny that you and your friends had this problem because I remember playing SS2 with my friend with no issues (besides bad netcode). Literally a skill issue, like comment #1 said.
