The default controls are very similar to what Halo has:
RT weapon primary fire (left mouse button)
LT weapon secondary fire (middle mouse button)
RB reload (R)
LB activate offhand item (1)
A roll (spacebar)
B melee attack (right mouse button)
X use (E)
Y switch weapons (Q)
Select in-game briefing (tab)
Start pause (doesn't work in multiplayer)
Left Stick movement (WASD)
Right Stick aiming (mouse movement, locked to a circle around your character with the controller)
Left Stick Click "hold position" (X)
Right Stick Click "follow me" (C)
D-Pad Left first ally offhand (2)
D-Pad Up second ally offhand (3)
D-Pad Right third ally offhand (4)
I'd classify this as "partial" controller support, since most of the menus don't respond to controller input (the ingame hacking minigames work perfectly, though).
If you want to test controller support in Alien Swarm, enable the developer console in the controls settings (once you check the box, the default key to open it is to the left of 1 on a standard US English keyboard) and enter:
However, the thing lacks controller support (due to its age, I guess) and the gait of the controlled characters is stupidly fast -- such that I had to bind the directional input together with the "walk" button (Xpadder) in order to stomach playing it.
Will these issues be fixed in this game or is this just some "re-release" of the same game, with little-to-nothing changed / addressed / fixed?
...What is this game, anyway?! 0_o
Hmm, joystick 1 should be all you need to make it work. It'll switch to joystick mode if you move the (left, I think) stick on the controller and switch back to mouse/keyboard mode if you move the mouse a certain distance. When I was watching a friend of mine test it, it looked like the crosshair was locked to a circle around their character and moving the (right?) stick determined where on that circle the crosshair was.
This being tested on Windows 10 which auto installs controller drivers. On Windows 7 I had to visit the Microsoft website through a google search in order to find the XBox360 Controller Drivers.
