The original was 8 players. The Valve source engine Alien Swarm was not the original. The original was a mod for Unreal Tournament 2k4. It was 8 players and a lot of people just felt like the source version was a watered down rush job, because it was also originally an Unreal Standalone game before being picked up by valve?

This is the original -- note all 8 players and the top down camera.
I felt like the new one was pretty good, but would have been better with 8 players. I felt the same about Diablo 2 -> Diablo III, 8 players rocked in D2.
Or are 4 still Ok?
Why not?
Also, 8 player groups can do more itneresting things with class roles in the mix, than 4 people EVER could.
Hence why D2 is better than D3, primarily for hte 8 player limit.
Even if there's not really THAT many people playing anymore. x3
