Replicatable save issue

Windows 10, default install location

The game auto-saves, then when I die, I press R to reload.

This reloads me back at the START of the level, instead of the last auto-save.

Immediately after loading up at the start of the level, the game auto saves again, and over-writes the previous save that was closer to the end of the level.

So effectively I've lost my auto-save, and to boot there is this really silly mechanic where if the player restarts the level, they lose all their guns except the Melee and Pistol. And then it auto-saves me with this gimped invoentory.

I have passed this along, but it looks like it is not loading the save for some reason and falling back to the internal failsafe of reloading the map with the player having default inventory (which the map changing autosave is meant to avoid). Does this happen on every play session? It would probably be worth posting your config file, the log file, and the first bad save from a new session.

Well, when I said "replicateable" and showed the specific steps I take to reproduce it, I assumed it was the same for everyone.

The location I save the game is after opening up the blue door, going through the metal detector, and kill 2 sets of soilders hiding behind pictures that This is before going to the area that auto-saves near the yetllow key-card elecator that proceeds to the next level.

From a new game, if I die after the autosave, it loads the correct auto-save.

From loading the manual save, I continue and the game auto saves, then I die, and the reload restarts the level with the default inventory.

I would like to confirm a similar thing happening to me at the same level.

I turned autosave off from the menu before starting and forgot to make a proper save later, relying on the quicksave. When I died (by falling to my death at a later part of the game) I wasn't quick enough with the quick load. I was booted back to the beginning of the level like '22 DeathGrip' was and my quicksave was overwritten. If possible, I would ask you to separate quick save from autosave, if possible.

Not sure that will effect anything. Saves deleting themeselves is the problem.

Do you have your steamapps folder and OS installed on the same drive?

I have my OS on C:\ and games on E:\, I was wondering if that might be part of the problem.

What is supposed to happen in all cases is when you press USE it should reload a save. The only reason you should see that bug is if a save doesn't exist, is corrupt, or otherwise not loading for some bizarre reason.

This is an odd one and outside of my area, I just write the scripting/game code not the engine bits like save handling, but I am hopeful we can figure out what's going on.

It looks like this was two overlapping issues. It appears to be working correctly in our local tree, and you will be able to test yourselves when we next update the beta build.

I also have problems with (manual) save games,
A saved game somtimes shows a totally black screenshot,
in stead of an actual screenshot from your save point.
Loading it later resets you to the start of the level.
This happens on the very start of the game and is reproducible.
(I've just bought the game, this bug makes me hesitant to really start playing it....:-( )

I'm bumping this for this reason. I'm having the issue right now. I can't even continue anymore because no matter how many saves I make right now on Casual Casualties, they all go black screenshot and loads me right back at the beginning of the level. Never had an issue until I stopped playing for about a week and came back to it.

Bump again, I have the same issue, cannot actually play the game because of this bug. It also worked fine for me when I first bought the game, took a month break and then my saves were all broken. Restarted and played a while, now all my new saves are broken again :(

Would love to help debug this issue, but not sure where to start. Considering asking for a refund as this game is unplayable for me with this bug.

I turned off checkpoints and cleaned-up saves.
So now only on manual saves.
I have not had the bug again....

From what i read and understood there was a bug when they had the huge update and it borked the save files for the old ones. I just started back on the saves they started me off on and worked my way back through everything again and it worked after that.
