Man, Ashes Afterglow has to be one of the best games released this year. If you like Ashes 2063, check out Hedon. It has similar gameplay with a warcraft-like atmosphere.

Not sure if in the same vein, but I've been playing a lot of The Citadel here on Steam. It's a single dev FPS and a little rough around the edges, but still pretty fun. Just throwing another one out there for anyone looking for more boomer shooters.

The Citadel is a loli guro shooter. Hard pass.

I played through both episodes, and it was a treat.
The tutorial and first levels of episode 1 are unfortunately no indicator of the quality.
But episode 1 gets far better later on, and the quality jump in episode 2 is astonishing.

Thanks for mentioning this. For as many years that I've been on Doomworld, I'm really surprised I missed this. I should probably spend more time on the Zdoom forums as well.

But yes, Ashes is really, really damn impressive example of what can be done with the GZDoom engine. It feels like STALKER mixed with Doom, and it's quite a bit of fun. I must've just missed it, but it is impressive.

And now that there's a standalone version using the FreeDoom .iwad, you don't have to own the original Doom 2 .iwad to play it. It comes with it's own .bat files that will run it right off the bat. Although I would recommend anyone who doesn't have the original games to get them, there are enough custom levels and mods to last a lifetime.

I'm glad it was mentioned here though, because it is really damn good.
