I'm kinda a little disappointed

While it is a good game, it doesn't really innovate anything to the FPS genre or do anything unique. It's just another FPS game, although it's a well designed one. I was kind of hoping for something more after being in development for a long time. I obviously don't care about the graphics, I just wish we could see something never seen before in a Build game engine. Ion Fury is in my opinion the fourth best Build engine game behind Shadow Warrior, Blood and Duke Nukem 3D. It's still a billion times better than Redneck Rampage. I give SW, Blood and DN3D a 9 out of 10, I give Ion Fury an 8 out of 10. I still need to locate all the secrets in the game so maybe I'll find something that I overlooked when I beaten the game.

This game lacks story in all possible terms and I find it worst part of the game. BulletStorm, Shadow Warrior 1, Dukem Nukem Forever, all of em did it much better.

honestly at this point a non open world FPS with a regular health bar and complex level design is an innovation all on its own, I'd much rather be playing this than rage 2 or metro exodus

Who needs a story when he get´s a rocksolid shoot em up flavored with 90s bullystyle phrases and a music that includes all types of 90s electro music (from drum´n base to happy hardcore).
This game does not want to innovate, it want´s to show that the roots of all this stuff on steam still can compete and not realistic looking textures make a game enjoyable.

It´s like holding a mirror to the gaming industry where nearly all interesteing aspects on classic gaming got sacrificed on the altar of realistic graphics and ingame shops.

This. I've not paid any attention to the story at all, i've just loved running around killing things as we did in the 90s. Been a bit of fresh air compared to the generic shooters we get today.

Try Lucasarts Outlaws if you're looking for a Build-Engine-esque game but want a proper story. It's positively fantastic and way overlooked among these types of fps's.

Personally I'm not looking for originality or innovation, imo they're way way overrated as traits, what I'm looking for is focused design and pushing the bar for execution - on this Iron Fury delivers in spades.

Me too miss the riveting story of Duke wresting with his homoerotic tendency by putting on a uber macho facade. Fearing the world and his brothers in the EDF would see their hero differently once they find out who he really is.
I also miss how Lo Wang struggle with his loyalty to his clan, which comes with massive benefit and doing the right thing. All set in the context of the Japanese work culture: polished, sanitised, professional...but actually soul crushingly hiearchical
And how could we forget Grayson Hunt's guilt over being put in a game with abysmal level design and boss fight. Truly, a story for the ages.

Compare these to this tasteless, substanceless sorry excuse for a feminist power fantasy. How far the mighty has fallen.

Ok, I do want the accompanying comic book that adds unnecessary exposition. And an even more unnecessary movie adaption staring Brie Larson, for maximum triggering.

Do you realize how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rare REAL fps games are nowadays? FFS man. An 8/10 SP FPS game comes out like MAYBE once a year. And don't tell me dusk is in this category, that game is trash.

Who unironically likes Duke 3D's Jetpack, it's pretty much useless you wanted to skip a level, which you don't want to do because you bought the game to play the game.

Endgame bad guys are pretty cool. Really I wish there was more weird enemies like the muscle cyborg guy.

Just to re-clarify, I really like Ion Fury, I just wish we could have something new to the Build engine. Ion Fury succeeds at replicating a 90's classic FPS that didn't exist up until recently. The revolver does kick a** and one of the best handguns in any first-person shooter game. I see myself using it all the time. I'm going to replay the game again to see if my opinion will change of it. But for fans of classic FPS games, Ion Fury doesn't really introduce anything we haven't seen before.
