Now, imagine her and Duke Nukem tag-teaming against these cyborg baddies...I would die happy.
Anyway, Valerie did an awesome job!
Nice! I'm happy you guys brought her back. I really enjoyed her work in the first game, and it's nice to have that continuity with the character.
Was all the voice work handled by PCB Productions?
Edit: You answered that in the other thread about voice acting. Nice work handling all that personally, it turned out great!
See that's not interesting at all. This was tried in Bombshell, and it just came off REALLY stupid.
Shelly in THIS game? Well I like her. She's an 80's action heroine to the tee, just like Duke was the male ones. The 80's/90's heroines in those movies were competent and sexy, but not sexist caricatures. I look at Shelly in this game and I think Melina from Total Recall, Ellen Ripley from Aliens. Sarah Connor from *IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SHE'S FROM THIS GAME ISN'T FOR YOU.* Storng, sexy women. They didn't ♥♥♥♥♥ it up, but they also very much in control of their feminity. They kept their agency while also keeping their womanhood.
I don't like to say things like this but Shelly from Bombshell? I think she was a gay man's idea of a strong, sexy woman. She blathered about nothing, and she was like Duke, but estrogen instead of testosterone. And you know what? That's not funny. It made her the anti-Duke, and that was weak.
I like the delivery of the lines. I like the scripting of them. Now I wouold make one suggestion: the first time you see a new enemy type? If this is possible, record a few snarky lines and have the game choose at random between them. Like for the guys in robes, stuff like, "Holy crap, I didn;t even know the NRA had a rectory" or what the monks did in the Holy Grail, have her all "pie iesu domine dona eis requiem"
Wepaon pickups are also a great time. A few lines there. You know, "See this? This is my boomstick!" references, but not over the top. Let's pretend each encounters the first boss of Duke Nuke, Where Duke says something agressive and macho, "I'll rip your head off and ♥♥♥♥ down your neck" maybe Shelly could say something like "Depth perception, look into it!" or "Can;t blame you for being so angry, really. Looking like that jerking off is probably your only option, but then they had to go and take your hands away."
Duke is confrontational, egotistical. Shelly seems to me more.. snarky; taunting her enemies into losing their cool.
Shelley's a professional, I feel like she'd probably just ignore Duke.
I think she'd snark and then ignore... was my first thought.
But no, you are correct; shelly's professional enough to know that someone like duke would take umbrage and thus lose combat effectiveness. Sure she'd WANT to deflate him, but they're working together against a common enemy and infighting would be useless.
...I guess this is kind of a tanget; what was this thread about again?
