In the beginning, I disliked this game so much and knew it would never recommend it to my friends. However when the first part ended, thankfully, the game started to be more interesting. I dislike anything about pirates, ships, sailors. The sea life in general, and when the game started off like that I felt so disappointed to the point that I stopped playing the game for a while because of the bad story and annoying looping music. However, I returned to play it this week and can easily say it got a little bit better after finishing the ship part.

The main character Elizabeth who is a part-time pirate was asked to save a man named Adam. This Adam lives in a town where people started to die without any warnings- Says he know how to beat it but he needs Elizabeth's help. The story is basic now, but when the small voodoo dolls show up, the story changed completely. Our heroine will start traveling from a place to another to find those dolls (The keepers)Each doll control an element (Ice, water, thunder, and time) And the other one is the knowledge doll who is actually the hint button. I liked that each one has a different personality. If only this game was voiced, I think it'd have been different.

Hidden object scenes were ok, puzzles were a little bit hard at times. However, I didn't encounter any glitch, especially the one people were talking about, the very last puzzle with the clock. It worked perfectly with me.

There are many areas to explore, the fast traveling map helped with the backtracking. Each area you unlock has 6-8 places to explore, you can't go back to the previous chapter's area though. I also didn't like that the map is inside of the journal, whenever you want to check it you must open the journal first.

I loved the art of this game, they did a good job with it just like all of their games. But in this one the character's design wasn't the best, the dolls were fine though.

-Lots of backtracking.

Despite all of the negative things I said about this game, it is still playable. I only recommend it to hidden object games lovers. It is not bad, but it is not their best.

If World Keepers had some voice acting and a half-competent script, then it could have been an awesome hidden object adventure: gameplay is challenging, there are plenty of interesting locations, and the puzzles are fun.

World Keepers: The Last Resort has only one problem, but it is a huge one: it feels like as if a little kid wrote it. The story cannot keep any focus as we wander from place to place, while reading dialogues that were likely cringe inducing even in their native language, let alone this butchering of the English language of a translation.

Ironically, the plot itself is good: we play as a female pirate captain who embarks on a quest of stopping Ancient Evil (its actual name), which serves as a good excuse to visit a plethora of interesting and beautiful locations.
The gameplay also shows several signs of great design, especially with the difficulty of the point ‘n’ click segments and in the puzzle variety. It falters a bit at hidden object scenes, since there are only seven of those, but the rest could easily make up for it, if the story would not constantly ruin the mood with its horrible lines.

Sadly this is the worst HOG that I own. There is no dialogue, the story is so random that it's very time consuming to try to find out what steps you are suppossed to do next. Most of the time, especially in part 4, you are following instructions written on pieces of paper and just collect things to assemble something greater. It's really and I mean really tedious and boring - I miss the joy in exploring. On top of all this, you have these extra doll characaters that are meant to help you and have "superpowers" to quote "fight evil", however they are inconsistent - for instance a fire doll will melt ice over a pot for you, but will not light a fire, because he is only used to "fight evil". The logic is beyond me. I cannot recommend this game.

World Keepers: Last Resort (IHOG)

Options: separate sliders for music and sound effects, custom cursor and full-screen or windowed, plus three difficulties to choose from. HINTS cannot be disabled, no matter which difficulty you choose, so click carefully.

There is a jump-to MAP, which can only be accessed via the journal (there's a MAP button at the very top.)

There are 7 chapters, total, and each contains one hidden object scene, which you will visit twice. On the plus side, all of the items you find the first time around will stay gone. The "Find" list can be minimized, and sometimes there are items that you need to find hidden behind it. Be aware that there is a GLITCH in the second HOS in Chapter 2. Solution: 'Scales' is listed twice. One is balancing scales, as you would expect, the other is a weight that would go on the scales.

There are a couple of minor localization issues, but the only one that was really bothersome was trying to figure out what a "PUTTON" was (button, of course.) It was the only mislabeled item I saw besides the "scales" issue mentioned above.

Scenes can be dragged vertically just a smidgen.

In the final chapter there is another GLITCH, which prevents some people (including me) from being able to solve the time puzzle without skipping. SUPER-IRRITATING for those of us pursuing all of the achievements, as there's literally no way to get the achievement for not skipping any puzzles. I also did not get the achievement for using no hints, despite starting the game over TWICE because I had accidentally hit the hint button >_<

Thoughts: Ridiculous story, good (but not outstanding) graphics, no voice-overs, recycled HOS, so-so in length... Just not the quality I'm used to from Alawar-Stargaze. I was irritated with the game right from the beginning, but that is due to my personal preference. I'd still recommend the game for a few hours of entertainment for HOG-lovers, although there are definitely better titles out there.

This get a half-thumbs up. If this were a movie, that would be a 2 out of 5. Not low enough to be a 1, a thumbs down, but this is by far the weakest HOG I have ever played. It's also terrible as a first person shooter and as a tower defense game. It's not even good as a collectible card game or a time management game. Really, there is no genre of game that this game excels at. But it slides just at par because all achievements are easily obtainable and except for a few typos, there were no technical issues-- the game didn't crash. And it took me almost 9 hours to finish, so you're getting your money's worth as far as graphic adventure game. Which is really what this is: it is one of those HOGs where you are mostly playing scavenger hunt. There are 7 chapters and there was one chapter with no HOG or puzzles scenes at all, just scavenger hunting: find the scissors to untie the key that opens the door.

I don't usually complain about plot-lines in adventure games, because by definition they usually just exist to justify the scavenger hunting, but this game violates a cardinal rule of logic which completely destroys suspension of disbelief. And no, I'm not talking about the talking muppets: everyone from John Crichton of Farscape to David Bowie of Labyrinth has interacted with Kermit the Frog and his friends, so no, that's fine. The usual nonsense of Sealed-Evil-in-a-can, the Muppets with super-powers, the usual Indian shaman magic, etc. etc.... none of it is new for a HOG, but none of it is terrible. Instead, the cardinal rule that most HOGs follow is that you're a stranger in a strange land, a fish out of water, a Bonnie searching for her Clyde exploring a gothic mansion. You're learning about the new area same as the character you're playing. But here in World Keepers, you start the game in your own bedroom and you need to figure out how to get into your own safe and then into the room next to yours, a place you have presumably visited dozens of times as it's occupied by your father's best friend. You see you're the Captain of the ship, and even if your pirates booby-trapped it and stuck puzzles everywhere, you'd still know all the bypass codes and shortcuts. Except you don't. So the game accidentally gives you the sense that you're playing either an idiot or a figurehead that's completely out of touch with her own ship and crew.

Many of my fellow reviewers have knocked the first chapter without really articulating why. Well, this is why: if you like HOGs and puzzles and adventure games, you're the clever sort who favors guile and using wits and wiles. Unless it's a comedy and you're playing inept pirate Guybrush Threepwood, you don't expect to be lost in your own bedroom. That's just bad plotting and it completely breaks the immersion of the game.

In fact, this game suffers from bad plotting all around, and not just in the story. The design of the GUI is terrible. Your muppets ring the hint-button, so you have to be careful not to touch it when using them. And the bad design doesn't stop there-- one object in a HOG scene is buried behind the list of words that you're looking for. They don't call me Eagle-Eyed Aglet Green, OBE for nothing. I pay them quarters. But anyway, I'm good at spotting stuff and rarely need walkthroughs or hints, but this time I had to find out why I was stuck in an otherwise very simple HOG scene. To find out that the object I needed was accidentally hidden behind the list of words!

So yeah, by around Chapter 6 I was just grinding my teeth and waiting for the game to be over. In fact, I'm going to lower my rating to only one quarter thumbs up. Maybe even just a knuckle. And that's only if it's on sale or part of a bundle.

What saves this game from just pure thumbs down is the map letting you both instant travel and letting you know where you could or should do stuff. That, and the fact that each chapter was only 3 or 4 rooms, so there wasn't any tedious back-tracking: you never get stuck in the scavenger hunting (well, except that one time when some plant insecticide was just above the hint button) and at single-digit hours, the game didn't totally wear out its welcome; chapter 7 is mercifully very short.

The story is silly but interesting. It has many inconsistencies but it's fine as a whole. The gameplay is OK(ish). There are quite a few bugs but they aren't very annoying. You can solve everything without having to use any hint and you don't feel the need to skip any puzzle. In general, the puzzles are logical and quite straightforward with a few exceptions.

IMPORTANT HINT:
There is an issue with the last puzzle involving a clock where the position of one of the clock hands is not where you might think it is supposed to be and many people end up skipping that part and fail to get the achievement for finishing the game without skipping any puzzle.
That puzzle is solvable. It's just that the smaller clock hand must have a small offset to the right, from the 12 o'clock position, so the arrow doesn't point towards the golden dot but rather towards the right segment of the stone portion that is above it. This is not a bug. If you have an analog clock around, set the same time and have a look at the smaller clock hand position and you'll see the hand has the same offset in reality.

All in all, the game was enjoyable and I recommend it.

TL;DR: It's not a "must play" type of game but rather a "might play" one. In other words, if you play it, chances are you'll have some fun and you won't feel like you wasted your time for nothing.

Good game so far. Just a few points. They skimped on some stuff. The Music is terrible. I almost had to mute it. Its a 10 second sound clip that just keeps repeating forever. Annoying. The sounds are lacking. No voice on anyone inside the game. The graphics do look sharp and I like the cartoony look. The cutscenes are good.

The story is interesting. The puzzles have been fairly easy so far. The hidden puzzles are easy to find stuff in. I do have one nit pick and that is placing stuff on the right spot. In most of these games if you get close its on. In this game you have to be very precise. Its a little annoying. Example a crossbow you need to place the arrow exactly on the bow part. If its a hose you have to place it exactly on the nozzle.

Just another point in the screenshots they show black bars. Not sure why I have no black bars on my screen. I am using my laptop to play the game. Resolution is 1366 by 768. Standard resolution.

I just finished the game. Sort of short. No bonus chapter sadly. Still I enjoyed it even though its short.

A cute and easy game, with rather simple puzzles and hidden object scenes. The art is nice, the music is mostly non-intrusive, and the dolls are really cute. Yes, I know I said 'cute' twice. (shrug) The first segment of the game is definitely the best part, and the most interesting. The over-reliance on First Nations / North American Indian mysticism, and then alien mysticism is par for the course for these games, but still not great.

There are many better HOPA games out there. This one should be bought on sale and played when you just need something light for ye olde brain cells. There are one or two frustrating moments, but nothing terrible.

I'm giving this a Recommend because I don't mind simple games that are family friendly and generally available at a steep discount. I do find it odd that out of much better games out there, this one has trading cards and Steam achievements. I assume this is due to the age of the game. Bottom line: if you read this review, you'll know what you're getting, and it may be the right game for you.

A slightly buggy hidden object game, but luckily I did not have any game breaking ones. However I did have to look up twice how to solve the issues I ran into.

Other than that I don't have any complains about the game other than the map is in a really inconvenient place.

World Keepers: Last Resort is a good HOG. It has nice graphics, a decent story and okay sounds. It has good puzzles and nicely done hidden object scenes. Overall it's a pretty decent HOG.
