Controller mapping?
Does anyone have a clue how to map the joysticks to do things such as pan the camera or strafe? I'm using a PC/Xbox 360 controller and can't seem to get them to actually map with the in-game settings.

The game doesn't detect all the buttons since it lacks X-Input(it's a old game afterall).
Steam recently made a built in controller mapper in Big Picture mode if you know how to do it. I don't think there is a profile yet for this.

Also if you own Controller Companion I made a controller profile here(you still have to do some mapping like it says in the discription): http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=679193106

what is Big Picture mode? ive seen that option somewhere in settings, would it allow a person to play the game with a 360 controller without still having to use the mouse for camera if you dont have j2k or xpadder etc...? if so would that also work on other games like Jedi Academy and Morrowind?

To enter big picture mode click the controller icon on the top right of steam. Go to the game in big picture mode and go to manage game. There should be a controller config option to map keyboard and mouse to the gamepad. You may have to enable your controller of the Big Pictures options area for Steam to overide the default setup.

this is kinda on topic.

but could you (or tell me how to) make changes like this so the mouse has 0 controll over the movement?

im using a steam controller and its friggin wonderful except for that fact.

please and thanks for any info.

I'd recommend making your right trackpad a radial d-pad instead, making the horizontal left/right and the vertical... nothing. It seems like the only vertical aiming you can do is by holding V.

great idea, and thanks for it. unfortunatley, it acts just like the mouse.

if anyone knows how to unbind movement from the mouse, that'd fix it right up.

thanks for the input though

Also, for anyone that finds the "look/aim" system to be too damn clunky to use while also moving, there is an option called "view lock ON" that makes it so that when you aim in a direction, it will be locked to that position until you press the look button again.

If you go to the Conrols option screen and click "next set," you'll come to one that says "view lock ON" at the top of the screen.

A good usage of this is when fighting AT-ST's on foot. You can lock the aim at an upward angle so that you can strafe around it in circles while firing without having to manullay attempt to hold the aim steady. It's also useful sometimes for usage with the jetpack.

I've added what I consider to be a perfect can't get any better Xbox controller config. The ID is 862142573. Enjoy!

What's this ID number for? Wtf are you talking about?
Gunnerman Bill Feb 16, 2017 @ 4:08pm
In big picture mode there's a community mapping page for steam/ps4/xbox controllers. You can use that ID to find it there.

Maybe a stupid question, but I've used the Gunnerman Bill configuration for this however the left stick doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing something?

Just loaded up a fresh game (default everything no save) and it worked out of the box with the config, make sure you're on the default controller settings and not set to use the keyboard's WASD

Hmm, weird doesn't seem to work for me, the air brake on the snow speeder works as does changing camera angle. Directional controls still not working. Back to the drawing board *sigh*
