How to reload a gun?

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to reload a gun. Anyone know how?

Just have the ammo in your inventory and when you run out of ammo, it will be used automatically.

I just had this bug as well and this thread is the only relevant search result so I'm going to leave what worked for me here. Make one character hold the bugged gun, its ammo, and no other weapons. Switch to controlling another character and start a fight. When I did this the AI was forced to reload the gun for me.
