A little tip I always want to remind people of when playing as a witch is that as a prop you make a lot of noise so you have to time your moments for when a hunter is not around or try out run them if they do see you. Witches not disguised as props move silently which means you have the option to undisguise yourself and try using the silent steps to your advantage.
A lot of them look very similar but the name or just slightly difference can be.. devastating.. or some really rare props on map that are asked of you.
I just feel with larger teams there could be more team playing. Like with more witches one could be the prop and the rest of the team could try and protect them as they make their way to the cauldron. Having a small time bonus for getting there would also reduce the mad scramble to try and get anything into any caudron.
Out of interest Jack, you filled all the cauldrons? In the time-limit? Or am I missing something on this? So far I've managed to activate 3 and get 1 prop into 1 cauldron before I'm either caught or the time runs out.
Just wondering... how????
How do you undisguise yourself? Theres nothing in the f1 menu that tells you, and googling it gives the answer that you can't.
I WILDLY disagree with you that this mode is balanced. I know you're a dev and all, but this mode isn't just like. Not fun - it's agressively ANTI fun. As the witch, all hunters have to do is sit on top of the building and view most of the map. They can also just. Sit in the cauldron and body block you, which is great. Why hunters can see the cauldrons outlined on the map, AND see which ones are activated by a witch is a mystery to me.
I suspect the only way to have fun in this game mode for someone who plays more casually instead of the people with tons of hours who have maps memorized or... made the maps?? is to just die as quickly as possible as a witch and wait to play as a hunter. and then play in melee mode only, because you're just SO overpowered as a hunter that it feels bad to shut the witches down so hard.
Alternatively... not play this mode. Because. Wow. I hate it. I've never had a game that I LIKE leave me so feeling so miserably unpleasant. I didn't know it was possible to destroy my intense halloween hype but about five body blocks in and whew. Now i know what to do if I'm just in too good of a mood.
...takes a deep breath. Man okay yeah I went off a little but this is legitimately not fun. I want to know how to undisguise still because it's a function of the game I might use elsewhere, but wow I really don't have fun with this mode. Even playing with two friends was STILL just miserably unfun, and this is with two of my favorite people in the words. I kno this is a work in progress which I why I'm not deleting my rant above because I do hope you take into consideration the opinions of people who don't work here, who disagree that this is balanced or fun in any way.
From someone who has played this game 250 hours, almost everything you've described are non issues. I am thoroughly enjoying this mode and I think it can be improved even more, but an objective based mode is a great way to mix up the game instead of just playing the typical simple hide and seek type mode which can get stale.
Admittedly, I do think this mode is not good for casuals unless you're playing only with casuals because two good players will absolutely stomp on two new players without mercy. Would I recommend a level 1 player to start with this game mode? Absolutely not. However, I still think the mode is accessible to players as soon as they've played the game for more than 5-10 hours probably, as long as they've been introduced to the maps before. I might recommend putting at least a lvl 5-10 requirement for this mode... or at least all skills are unlocked, as it really doesn't make sense to let someone play this mode if they don't have magic block unlocked (if this mode doesn't unlock all skills from the start). Last night I was in a game with a lvl 1, who clearly had extreme issues playing the game mode and I legitimately felt bad killing this guy in his first game ever which shouldn't have been in the mode. Like anything new, the mode can be frustrating at first, especially if you play against good players, but it gets much easier once you learn where the commonly required props are.
a few comments:
1) How to undisguise yourself? Granted I've played a lot, but this is something you learn pretty early on in the game by simply looking at chat or asking someone. But yes you're right it should be explained somewhere, if it isn't already, and included in the F1 menu. Hold left click to turn back into a witch!
2) I can confirm the mode is pretty balanced as I've won both as hunter and witch many times, but of course it will come down to player skill and team balance. I'm sure some of the cauldron locations could be improved such that the hunters don't have a perfect vantage on 3 out of 5 (might benefit from having another underground). But if you play smart, it is easy to win as a witch and but can also win as a hunter with a strong team. This is more of an issue on cemetery map and not library map. However, one of the cauldron locations on cemetary map is located very closely to the tunnel that goes underground, so that cauldron can easily be filled even if someone is watching from the roof.
3) If you see a hunter camping a pot, then go after another pot. This is why there are 5 of them, so fill up as much as you can halfway to keep the hunters guessing. Only 2 hunters will not be able to keep an eye on all 5 pots. I can guarantee you that no hunters will be camping the bottom pot in the cemetary, so that is a free pot to fill basically. I agree I don't like sitting in pot camping either, but you can work around it and sporing the hunter in the pot might work too I can't remember if it worked or not. However, I must say I really enjoy the pot layout on the cemetery map. Kudos to the developers!
4) It should be obvious why the cauldrons are visible to both hunters and witches. To make it balanced! Can you imagine new/semi-new players trying to play this mode as a hunter without having a clue to the location of the cauldrons? They will give up and never play the mode again, and rightfully so. Same reason why the hunters can see if they're activated (direct sight only), so they have a chance at stopping the witches if they know the cauldrons actively being filled. Advantage is still given to the witches in that they can work on filling all 5 if they want to.
5) You aren't always going to fill cauldrons, particularly if the teams are balanced. It isn't the only way to win in this game. If both teams are ineffective as witches, then it comes down to who was the best team as hunters (eliminated the most witches), or if only 1 out of 3 pots was filled, then the winner is determined by the fastest time for that first pot being filled all the way. You can still have fun in the mode without filling all 3 pots.
I think this mode is a breath of fresh air and is a welcome addition. I think if you're getting too frustrated on this map, maybe you aren't familiar enough with those two maps if you're having so much trouble? You might want to familiarize yourself more with those maps, or go into the mentality of winning the game as hunters and not as witches if you struggle filling all 3 pots. If you hate the cemetery map, you can always play the library map which does not have such a high vantage spot overlooking 3 out of 5 of the cauldron locations. Instead it has 2 outdoor pots, 2 indoor, and 1 on the roof. It might be slightly more balanced in favor of witches, but to be honest I find both maps having good balanced locations but I'm sure the devs will improve them if they find the need.
I literally said that the game is different for people who dont have the maps memorized. You have the maps memorized and have a large amount of play time. I specifically said that it's a different situation unless you're one of the few who have done that. There is a balance bias for people like you who have played the game to the point of memorization, like you said you have. It's en entirely different experience for someone who hasn't done that, and you cannot objectively claim that this is a perfectly balanced game mode when your only way to experience it is from such an experienced position. I understand that there are multiple viewpoints, which is why I left my comment, in hopes that the devs will recognize that this mode is biased towards the players with most game time. That doesn't have to be a BAD thing, but if thats what they want they should make it clear and make it clear that this is the goal of that game mode.
Which they have not done, as it's not a hey you wanna try hard mode? It's a hey you have to do this if you want to take part in the event. Which I dont want to do any more. It's like you said "They will give up and never play the mode again, and rightfully so."
You said that about hunters, but why are you expecting witches to just deal with it until they memorize the map. Why do you think it's perfectly acceptable and balanced for hunters to have 95% of the information required on a map, lacking only the knowledge of what specific item the cauldron wants, but able to figure it out extremely easily because hey. It's a stagnant map with no motion, except for the witches. Why are you not more understanding of players going "well thats not fun and I'm out, and rightfully so," when they start with even less information than the hunters would if they couldnt see the cauldrons outlined on the map and had to find them themselves?
1. Did you answer my question? This is me asking the community because this is the first time I've ever heard its possible, and the response I got was a "figure it out yourself" kind of response. It's not in the f1 menu. It should be. It's not. I still don't know how to detransform.
Sorry, re-read my post. I edited it shortly after posting and added that bit of info in. Press and hold left click to transform back into witch fyi.
There is a good chance that with any game mode they add, there will be a balance bias towards people who are more familiar with the game at this point. If you're a brand new player, who is playing hide and seek, the game isn't balanced either because you only have 20 or whatever seconds to hide, don't know where to hide or any good spots or props, and you have no idea where the hunter spawn is, don't know controls, etc. First time playing, you're likely to get caught close to the hunter spawn because you didn't know where the hunters spawn is in the first place. You can't really objectively balance a game mode for both new and veteran players. Best mode for new players is mobification, until they learn the maps, as you get the most playtime and gain familiarity with the maps and props quickly.
I don't understand the big deal, given that the game has quite a fan following of players who have put in 100's of hours. I don't think it's asking much for players to be at least familiar with the maps before trying to play a more complex game mode with objectives which is a bit more competitive than the more relaxed hide and seek. It doesn't take long to be familiar with layouts either to be competent in the mode, as I've seen people under level 20 who play just fine. You don't need to memorize the prop locations, as the first few rounds of the new mode I was very rusty and had a hard time finding some of the props. It takes a little while to get used to finding the props and once you memorize some of the common ones it gets much easier.
I agree its not an ideal situation where all players of all skill levels are being encouraged to play this event, where some players are clearly at an advantage if they know the maps, but win or lose you get the same amount of candies more or less. And since it's only 2 maps, it shouldn't take long to learn the map layout and where the props after playing some matches. You can always play custom servers if you want to learn the maps better or other game modes. Since the community is still small and there are a lot of veteran players, you're going to run into some unbalanced games since there isn't skill matching. If this happens, ask people if they want to mix up the teams in the next game. I think you'll find that people are pretty welcoming to mixing up teams. The game is in early access and the mode is a work in progress, so by complaining about seasonal/limited events, I think you're sending the wrong message to the developers. I applaud them on this new game mode.
Hunters instantly knew where i am although just spawned.
When they played witches they only had to fill pots with super small props, like a generic candle or a book, whereas we had a desk, a long board, a coffin etc.
The game and its maps are just not suited to move such gigantic props around and place them on a pot. Some pots are located in such narrow spaces that it was impossible to move a desk through a small door, then over half a dozen benches and while doing all that not to be seen.
The maps are too tiny, the props asked for too big and when you are unlucky then its unfair because one team gets small props only to fill pots whereas the other gets only big ones.
I like the general idea of such a mode, i just think that its a frustrating one especially because i get no freedom of choice regarding the witch skills.
I just dont play with flying and with copying. I mostly use the take over skill which is somehow not allowed in this mode.
It prb. needs a big rework to be enjoyable at all. Or maybe there are more cheaters around because there are more rewards to be found than in the normal modes.
I also feel like 2v2 is a bit boring. Too empty, not much happening. Maybe rethinking the goals of the mode and increasing teamsizes could be better.
Also the porps asked for are somewhat too specific. While our opponents had only to find a normal red candle we had to find a rotten board (nowhere to be found) and a special type of bone also nowhere to be found.
They filled 3 pots with super generic objects, whereas we had stuff that sometimes was only once on the map.
Maybe the location indicator on the bottom right needs to be redesigned and show locations of asked props more properly.
There are a lot of proplems, but generally i think it is one where "pros" are gatekeepers and everyone trying out the mode while not playing the game that regulary will stay out of it because those gatekeepers cause frustrating experiences.
It literally feels like people cheat in that mode. If the devs want the mode to be played by the whole community, they better find a way to make it also winnable and appealing for casual players and not those spending 200 hours playing only this game.
Same.
