Make it so that you can't find the same item thrice in a row and I can hunt witches happy
I like the crafting system and I think its a welcome feature as a way to deal with unwanted skins and duplicates to turn them into something worthwhile. I concur that the drop rate of the crafting materials is underwhelming, shouldn't be limited to just "1" at a time, when it should be a random amount in the range of 1-3, and even higher for low tier mats like fingernails. I've played 5-10 hours so far, in terms of materials I've only gotten troll eyes once and the rest have been fingernails and mouse poop only. Even if I were able to acquire all the pink bunny suit recipes, relying on crafting materials drops and smashing duplicate skins (you can't smash duplicate recipes), even if I played every day I would not be able to craft all pieces before the event is finished. It would be nice to craft the pink bunny suit before next Easter ;)
I am not a fan of requiring people to sacrifice skins from past events in order to craft skins for new events in a timely manner.
Who knows, other than some minor tweaks to the drop rates, this may not be an issue in the future as people accumulate a stash of crafting materials, especially in between events.
We will have some changes to drop rates and crafting comming out soon that will hopefully correct most of your concerns but as we have a lot to work on. we hope you can bare with us.
Thank you guys. I am more than happy to be patient with you guys, thank you for listening to the community, and I love this game and always am looking forward to future updates. Aside from the drop rates, I do love this event and the cute cosmetics that come with it. Thank you guys so much for hearing us. Not many games listen to their audience like that. I really appreciate it.
It takes 4x4x4x4 fingernails to make 1 pink shard for a whimsical item, which is basically 1/4 of a whimsical item. 4x4x4x4 is equal to 256. You will need 4 times that much fingernails to make a random whimsical: 1024 fingernails total.
Multiply that by say... 15min for each fingernail... You obtain 256 hours.
That is the worse case scenario for getting a whimsical. (Note that you don't actually drop fingernails all the time.)
I don't even have 256 hours of full game time and honestly, to me, that number is insulting.
It shouldn't take more than 10 hours to get a whimsical. 5 hours would still be reasonable.
As much as I enjoyed the initial drop rates in the most recent patch I am still encountering a high level of disparity. I don't really understand how 1 fingernail is even a reward considering 1 mandrake is worth 64 fingernails. Meanwhile im running past level 5 players with firecrackers. I do think the patch is a step in the right direction but it's hard to want to keep playing when you grind for hours to get one very rare item, still get 1 fingernail drops, and run past new players sporting the items you have coveted for 200 plus hours.
Please remove 1 fingernail drops.
I think it would be cool to increase the amount of materials you get from the cauldron. Like maybe the same random result you get when you smash items. That way you're getting 2-5 of some material every 300 xp. As much as I want better drops I dont think opening the floodgates on rare items is the answer.
The main reason we see new-players with end-tier items is because everything is attributed to random luck. There is no consistency.
Sometimes you will be lucky to get a mandrake, other times you will roll fingernails for hours. Because it is all pure luck; resulting in level 5 players having items max-lvl players have been coveting.
True the drop rates have been "improved" but to me it feels like a "quick & dirty" fix which does not address the heart of the issue: No consistency, just pure dumb luck and too much overhead.
Making it all random, and adding so much overhead was just a bad decision. I know it took a lot of work and I respect that but it could have and should have been a lot simpler.
On paper, 4 tiers of ingredients might have looked nice but in practice the idea needs to be re-thought.
Even calculating the amount of work required to get an item would have been a lot more straightforward if there wasn't so many tiers and luck involved.
10 dust every 5min; 120 dust per hour; 1200 dust for 10 hours of gametime -> 1200 dust for a whimsical.
The cauldron can drop dust for smashing items, again per level of rarity. Smash a whismical into 1200 dust, etc.
Right now, with all the amount of luck involved, there is no way you can accurately estimate how much time it will take to get this or that tier of item; which is probably a problem you are running into.
You have done so great with everything else, so please don't stay stuck in your own ideas like so many developers out there and make the game for your players not for yourselves.
Cheers.
