Gameguard is altering non-game related processes.
I work on a really old MMO called Legends of Kesmai which relies on using debuggers to develop with and since I have to wait for my friends because the connection problems I decided to do a little work. The project I was working on can detect alterations in memory like ntdll, etc. and log it.

I forgot I had Helldivers in the background which crashed a few minutes after I opened the debugger saying "Hack Attempt Detected" (the debugger wasn't associated with Helldivers in any way) but the interesting part is what I saw in the log for my project in that at least one function was being modified while Gameguard was running and stopped when Helldivers/Gameguard was closed.

Gameguard scanning programs to see if something bad is running is one thing, but Gameguard shouldn't, in any circumstances, be writing to process memory that isn't Helldivers regardless of it's intent.

To be honest, in this case it's kind of just doing its job. These sorts of debug tools are absolutely what you'd need to use if you wanted to hack the game, and NProtect has no idea what you're using them for. That said, I'm actually kind of shocked it correctly flagged this process as a potential problem instead of like, thinking it was A-OK and shutting down your graphics driver or something like that.

In any case, I also do game development and modding work and that's a big part of why I'm not willing to buy this game while Gameguard remains in place. In theory it probably shouldn't matter if as long as Helldivers 2 isn't running at the time, but with all the reports of compatibility problems I don't trust it not to cause problems even when I'm not playing the game.

The "closing the game" part is fine but not the external process modifications. :x It's never acceptable for an anti-cheat or any program not specifically expected to do so (like Discord, Steam, Overlays, etc.) to be writing to other processes memory space.

Even disregarding trust issues... the biggest problem is that the second you open Helldivers/GG, who knows what processes may have been modified until you reboot and can cause unintended side-effects.

that's what happens when you give some random company the same permissions as your OS, literal carte blanche to do anything to your system

Since i installed helldivers/gameguard i also had other games just randomly minimizing to desktop, not sure if its related but it's starting to annoy me.

This program has potentially unwanted behavior.

i just had this high threat come from the game

seems to work just fine for me, you're probably looking at a false positive...
