Game wont start
I hit play and the game starts running, then without any window pop up or anything the game stops. All of this in the lapse of 5 seconds.

I am experiencing this as well.

Likewise.

- Press "Play" on Steam library.
- "Cancel" button appears.
- "Stop" button appears.
- Game crashes immediately, "Play" button again available.

Same issue with mine. I have verified the files, re-installed twice with the second being a different drive, updated windows, updated my drivers, uninstalled steam, closed sonar sound and discord trough task manager based on Reddit reviews and still no solution.

I had the same problem. Downloading microsoft visual c++ redistributable 2012 was the fix for me. I discovered this by launching the helldivers executable directly (cog wheel on the helldivers page in your library>manage>browse local files, inside the bin folder) and it immediately popped an error telling me a file was missing and i just googled the file from there. It's a shame that launching through steam doesn't give you this error message so that you can see what the issue is.

Same issue. Kinda getting annoyed at the lack of response that Arrowhead has been giving players who are experiencing the same issue.

so the problem DOES stem from VC++ 2012 runtimes as Altairian mentioned above. you should have the .exes to reinstall them in your Steam\steamapps\Steamworks Shared\redist\VC folder. you need both the x86 and x64. you'll notice if you run either one the installer will hang.

what i did was uninstall both via Control Panel -> Programs and Features, reboot, clear the appdata\local\temp folder, reboot, then reinstall, then reboot again. game fired right up.

Is there a tutorial for this?

No need just go to Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2012

and then repair the VC++ and you should be up and running. Worked for me at least
