I now get a black screen when i restart

I haven't even been able to play the game yet, was starting fine (other then the server capacity) now i just get a black screen.

At my most charitable, this is a programming bug as the computer isn't allowed to connect to the server. But it's awful terrible to not be able to tell if there is an issue, or the draw comes after some important wait-for-return function to resolve.

I have installed "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86) 14.38.33135" and restarted. This seems to have resolved it, but I'm nto sure why x86 fixed anything, as I'm on an x64 system.

The Black Screen is due to overloaded server connections, so its not Client side, so Verifying files wont work.

Same, waited it out to see if it was still working. Took a while. Maybe 15-30 minutes but got the the login screen. Just had to wait....

It was happening to me too. It's just apart of the loading process if you wait long enough you get to wait in an actual loading screen for even longer. Hopefully the issue gets resolved soon though. God speed Helldivers

If you have a black screen when launching, it's basically the same thing as getting the "ERROR: SERVER AT CAPACITY" message when trying to connect to servers. I recommend playing when the player count drops bellow 200k, which typically occurs at around 11:00 UTC.

Alright, so I imaged to get in in the US early AM hours, during a numbers lull. Still, the black screen is unacceptable, and I think one of the important things here is it obscures and causes a false sense of MASS alarm.

Few things I found that seemed to help:
1. delete the config file, others have pointed out. It's located at"C:\Users]%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2" by default. It will automatically be regenerated. If you are leery, rename it to "*.old.config" and you now have a backup located onsite.

2. Install the latest version of Microsoft Visual Redistributable (x86). You will need to restart your computer.

I would encourage hte devs to investigate this hangup, and other devs to take notice to ensure loading to a safe splash page before trying to jump to an always online interface. I rather an extra 10 seconds of loading to 5 minutes of "WTF."

you shouldn't have to delete anything from your system, don't do this, i guess if the game auto-generates this file if none is found it probably isn't a huge concern but for the black screen the best thing to do is just wait. In my case I have to toggle windowed/fullscreen with alt+enter, but it just might be my quirk. They have the "steamworks common redistributables" in your Steam library that should be installed as well.

but I'll totally agree there needs to be a better login or authentication process, whatever the issue is.

if you have friends in the game already you can always try piggybacking off them and join game through steam before starting the game hope this helps some peeps

yea dude its hopeless i woke up at 2 am to try to log in bc i couldn't touch this game, i understand that they literally can't handle the server traction bc they arent a triple A studio but ♥♥♥♥ all my friends are playing somehow

The automaton frontline isn't looking very good rn. I didn’t have to do ♥♥♥♥ btw, all these people throwing five extra steps in are just happening to get lucky. Have fun tearing your computers apart for a dev-side issue.
