short version: any PC is designed to operate under 100% load without overheating, if any component in PC overheats, then you need to check for hardware faults (unless you play in 40c+ room temps, that might be an issue).
even when running stress testing / benchmarking or crypto miners on CPU, it should never go above 70c.
i've built all my computers myself and i hate seeing even 60c+, my CPU is usually 45-50C while under max load, however i have liquid cooling.
i strongly suggest stop using any programs that put load on CPU and open it up and make sure that CPU cooler is properly attached. on one of my motherboards the CPU cooler bracket broke and CPU cooler was loose enough so temps went over 50 even in idle, which is when i realized something is wrong.
if your CPU cooler is properly attached, get some quality thermal paste (look up some charts on which one is better) and re-apply thermal compound.
best way is to put one bigger drop in middle and 4 smaller ones near corners, then push CPU cooler on top of it and do not re-adjust. don't forget to properly clean off the old thermal paste before applying new one.
also make sure your pc case has proper airflow (more fans is not always better, good airflow is what matters, having 1 fan in front and 1 in back is much better than have like 4 in back or top).
My pc is 1 year old, and no other game is doing this. I keep my computer clean and have a beastly noctua cooler. Im seeing quite a few people saying the same thing on reddit and steam, same story as mine. Randomly the game is slaming cpu temps.
I found a fix that worked for me that is worth a shot, I closed out of my software that controlled my fans and it seemed to fix the issue? hopefully there will be a patch soon to actually fix it
I also need to mention that 2 days ago I didn't had this issue. So most likely one of the recent updates messed that up.
And dude different types of CPU have different optimal operating temperatures
A AMD CPU will most likely always have a higher operating temp than a Intel CPU
Also AMD works best at higher temperatures ( 80C, maybe this has changed in the last 10 years, but saying ALL CPUs have to stay under 70C is bogus
And if only 1 game, and no other tools/games are causing the CPU to overload/heat, doesnt mean that there is broken hardware, doesnt mean there isnt either but giving an ultimatum without even considering "a just released game" is causing this, is braindead.
Does it go to 100% load or 100°C as in temperature, 2 completely different things?
cause if your PC isnt shutting down at 100°C then you have a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problem, and i advise to not run the game anymore until its resolved
Every mainboard's security measures should kick in if CPU reaches 100°C and shut down automatically.
Might help
There is such a thing :D
Restart PC and repeat, restart again
then start the game
