My progress was reset, everything lost.
Game worked fine last night, but today its completely a mess.

When i launch the game, it closes steam, totally exits the application. It even shuts down wall paper engine, and discord.. the game then asks me my language, shows me the statistics screen, the hell diver intros, and finally starts me out in training. if i press ESC it says im level 1, and only 1000 R points. Where has all of my 34 hours of game time gone!?!

try this. go in properties on the helldivers2.exe. Then compatibility. Then at the bottom theres "change options for all users", Then check the "run this program as admin" save it and then try to run it

Im seeing this pop up too. Im with you brother, lost my level 24 acc =( i really don't want to grind to helldiver difficulty again.

Yes this seems to be a problem arising, it loads a new profile with your desktop and not your steam account. I believe it is tied to the Game Guard closing the applications.

Same issue here. Like Oxolane said, has to be connected to the Anti-Cheat crashing steam on shutdown. Really pisses me off.

there are many reports about the kernel level anti-cheat nprotect gameguard terminating other programs that includes steam, and yes your progress is forever gone now and there will be no one that could help you recover your loss data if it didn't restore itself

So i went to verify the game files again, and it popped up with a prompt to uninstall nprotect gameguard. this time i clicked yes, and it uninstalled. launched the game and it gave me an nProtect prompt to reinstall. i clicked no, and it gave me an error code that takes me to their website. I launched the game again, and clicked yes to reinstalling the AC. lo' and behold my game works again! for how long i dont know, but it might be a possible work around to this bug.

I honestly doubt the progress is gone. Its just an issue with steam being closed and our characters hence not loading in due to not having access to the steam cloud.

Its however a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it as been over 24 hours with no communication on the issue and all because the devs or the publisher had to include some stupid anti-cheat program in a PVE shooter.

Funny that, because I actually wanted to reset my progress, all the crashes and, not being able to gain reward felt crummy (I'm only level 8) but like I genuinely would just like 0 out and wait for the game to iron itself out. Though apaprently there's no formal way to just reset my character.

Have exactly same issue. In some very rare cases steam stays open and then the progress is as it is, so it looks like the game is somehow able to run without steam on another account autorcreated or so, idk.
