Mic volume
Whenever I play Helldivers 2 my mic seems to lower its volume by itself. This never happens when playing any other game seemingly, just Helldivers even though I disabled voice chat/am not using my mic in game.
Is this a known problem?

If you're on Windows, the first port of call is the built-in ducking, see https://multimedia.easeus.com/ai-article/windows-audio-ducking.html.

Can you see your input level lowering in your VOIP app or how did you diagnose it? Does the input device stay the same in system and in app?

I'm using a blue snowball with no 3rd party mic related program
So the only reason I am aware of it happening is becuase I see the volume slider of my microphone in the Windows sound setting go down in real time when I speak-usually when I speak louder than normal while playing the game.
Doesn't happen when I'm outside of the game.

So OS settings are okay? No ducking?

Didn't see anything in HD2 audio or accessibility settings just now that would cause this behaviour. Haven't heard others report the issue either.

As usual my problems are an enigma experienced by no one else ever lol

Well, it should be easy to solve once you find where the setting is, this sounds like standard audio processing behaviour.

I've looked through every nook and cranny I can think of when it comes to Windows settings or Helldiver's mic settings for that matter.

This is a long shot, but maybe it's Steam settings? Under Voice, "Automatic volume/gain control." Need to show the advanced options to find it.

I will give it a try later and see if that makes a difference somehow :ss13ok:
This issue is on Helldivers 2 side.
please open a ticket at arrowhead and let them know.

I've been dealing with this for a while now.
you can mitigate it by turning on automatic gain control and periodically checking your mic levels.

this is NOT a windows issue. as much as i hate them, this is on arrowhead.
this happens because youre speaking too loud next to your mic so the mic compensates by lowering your mic audio. if you talk softer it won't happen. but on other note the default audio mixing in helldivers 2 is horrible. most games when a mic is heard game audio fades into the background and the mic audio takes precedence. now admittedly they do have dials for all the audio settings. the problem is new users probably haven't dialed in their audio settings so they can hear voice chat and veterans of helldivers 2 probably don't care about voice chat at all.

Also experiencing this issue, no fix yet, and I have confirmed the issue occurs only after HD2 launches, and stops immediately after closing it.

Submitted a ticket with Arrowhead.

I don't use in game audio, I have my voice input disabled in game, it's ridiculous that this is happening.

i don't understand you can't hear your own mic in helldivers 2. you mean you disabled the mic setting or are using push to talk. helldivers turns on the mic that is the primary communications device if it wasn't on previously.

Helldivers 2 keeps lowering my microphone volume making me less loud even though I'm not using my mic in game.

uhhuh seems pretty difficult to prove. it does appear that the mic is always active even when the mic isn't been used. but it's still very difficult to prove. it could easily happen as your talking. uno reverse.

Leaving this here as a temporary solution to your problem. I did extensive testing on this.

Helldivers 2 is not the only game that does this.
