Black Screen and Crash on Launch

Hello,

I haven’t been able to play Helldivers 2 at all for quite some time now. As soon as I launch the game, I get a black screen that lasts for a while, followed by a crash. I can’t even reach the main menu — the crash happens during startup. The game used to work fine before, and I haven’t changed anything on my system.

I’ve tried all the common community fixes: running the game as administrator, disabling Steam Input, enabling Windows 8 compatibility mode, forcing DirectX 11, verifying game files via Steam, disabling overlays, reinstalling Visual C++ redistributables, and more. None of these have worked.

My PC runs all other recent games without any issue, so this seems to be specific to Helldivers 2. It’s extremely frustrating not being able to play a game I enjoy, especially with no error messages or crash logs to help diagnose the problem.

Please escalate this issue — I know I’m not the only one affected, and I sincerely hope a fix is coming soon.

Have you used NVIDIA control panel to lock the fps? If so try to disable it, that's how my problem got solved (for now at least).

Also just for future references. If you wanna reinstall the game. Try to delete everything HD2 related (delete steam folder, appdata folder, and uninstall gameguard before you uninstall the game), and if time allows also do a clean uninstall of your Nvidia drive using DDU. This way you might have a higher chance to success running the game.

I have the same problems as well, After the update I get an instant crash. Fresh install and everything.

Maybe its a problem with the anti cheat...

Using Linux as a second Operation System could fix your problem and you may loves the freedom too:

Doesn't even run long enough for the screen to blacken. Soon as I boot it up it crashes to oblivion, the error system automatically activating. Sent a picture with it every time, lo and behold it's an empty screencap of complete blackness. Literally tried every fix possible, watched vids of indians on youtube as well. Nothing works. But the error system works fine at least, got to take a black jpg of the game sharting itself.

I hope the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from Arrowhead aren't doing anything right now, as usual. I hope their office closes as soon as possible.

Feels like they’ve completely abandoned us. I’ve wasted hours following tips, redownloading the game, trying every fix out there… Nothing works.
I’m not a technician — I’m just a gamer who wants to launch the damn game and play, not spend my free time patching their broken mess. Ridiculous.
