Absurdly slow update process

The game downloads the update in minutes, then takes hours to "patch--" a state of installation I haven't even seen for any other steam game. Downloading the game fresh does not have this problem.

It is something that game developers can have steam do. It is making sure that the update took properly and making sure that there isn't any extra data in there(a lot of hack-clients add extra data into the game in order to work).
