Can't accept friend request.

I accidentally clicked "remove as friend" instead of "join", and ever since my husband has been not-a-friend and friend requests either he or I send, can't get accepted.

This has been an issue for over a month now. The only work around I have found is for the both of you to coordinate to drop on the same SOS beacon and then add each other from the recent players list. Even this is not always guaranteed to work but is the only thing that worked for me eventually.

He WAS in my recent player list and that didn't work either, could both send and receive friend requests, but couldn't accept them. I got into his ship after putting my friend list on public (which added ALL my steam friends) and then joining from there.

A friend of mine did this to all of our mutual friends last week. This somehow removed all of us from each other's friend lists, and none of us can accept friend requests from anyone else, just as OP says. To put it again, we were friends, we were removed as friends, we can join each other's games through the steam interface so long as all of our game settings are set to public, we can all send each other friend requests via code or through recent player list.
but none of us can accept these friend requests. when we click accept, nothing happens, and the friend request just sits there. we tried letting it sit for a couple days, tried canceling the request and trying again after an hour, 2 hours a day 2 days and 3 days. the results are always the same, a pending request that cannot be accepted.

Which really sucks because I don't want my friend list to be public, and shouldn't have to.
