It's a feature. Not a flaw.
In some environmental situations.
It can also work in your favor because stealth does work in HD II.
It also hides you, better if your crouch and hold fire when possible.
Enemies also check last "known" location, which means you can break line of sight and sneak off.
When done well, laying down, enemy patrols can pass surprising close without seeing.
(Not sure of foliage cover comes into play.)
My first mission was literally too dark to see the robots most of the time, only signs i had of their existence was the noise, the deaths they caused and the bright red lights highlighting their location.
Maybe something going wrong with occlusion and ambient light?
Honestly it is hard to know without visual examples.
I had the same issue on the training map. It was too bright from the sun to see anything, but the shadows were pitch black. Once I got out of the trainer mission it got 'better'. There are still traces of that problem. I have a really hard time seeing the symbols on terminals b/c of this. I spent the last 2 hours adjusting every. single. graphical. setting. Nothing made it better or worse. I'm not sure what to do and I wish I could be of more help, but I feel your pain.

This is on about 60% gamma and 100% brightness. It is only this game though, I play plenty of games on my laptop with no issue. Performance-wise there are no issues, its just simply that the game is too dark to see anything. Apparently it is not a common issue because I can find very few people with the same issue. I have submitted to Arrowhead about this issue but have yet to hear anything back. I am very confused why this one would have such a strange, seemingly unfixable issue like this.
Couldn't agree more with this.
What some of us are experiencing is not a feature, nor is it atmosphere. It's literally not being able to see anything that isn't directly in front of your face. I've compared my screenshots with friends on PS5 and what I'm experiencing is simple not normal, and there's no setting that can be adjusted in-game that seems to fix it.
People will do anything to defend every single flaw of the game.
