Is 'Failed to establish network connection' the same error as others are getting?

Understanding that the existing servers are insufficient for the playerbase expectations right now, I've still been trying every so often to join my friends who are playing the game. I've also tried to play on my own a couple times around when I would expect less activity, such as during the day at working hours or very late at night- but I haven't been able to see any kind of loading screen or the like, instead getting the following message:
Connection Error
Failed to establish network connection.
Click to continue.

I've tried waiting a max of 2 hours, clicking in every so often, also just clicking away for about 10 minutes, no dice either way. I can't join friends who are playing- it gets me to the same screen.

Anyone else having this specific issue who has actually gotten to play? I'm alright waiting until the server issues improve but I'd like to know if I'm having a different concurrent problem.

restart the game when it does this imo. had that tonight ..restarted game .. got right in

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case for me- I restarted multiple times the first time it happened, tried outlasting it, reinstalled and verified integrity... nothing seems to get me past that error.

That it has happened to you but not all the time is some comfort at least. I hope it'll pass for me eventually.

Not sure what you mean by this- if you are asking if it has to do with crossplay, I don't think so... I can't get into the game at all, as in just opening the game gets me a black screen with a popup no matter if I'm trying to connect to friends or just opening the game normally.

Have same problem. Start at first game walked tutorial and game crashed at loading screen. After that started game and have " failed to establish network connection" dont know how to fix traied everything......

I get into missions with other just fine, half way through a mission i get failed to establish connection and it kicks me back to my ship. playing on suicide mission and higher with super rare mats is incredibly annoying to have every time i launch into a mission others host.
