Unable to hear Voice Chat
I am able to utilize my mic during games. Fellow Democracy spreaders have typed to me that they can hear me, but I cannot hear anyone. I have noticed that the "hot-mic" icon lights up next to my name when I speak, but I have never seen it appear next to another Helldiver's name.

I have updated all audiol video drivers. Lemme know if someone smarter than I has fixed this.

Okay, so I think I just fixed it because I just heard someone in game for the first time ever. I did one of the "set as default communication device" things but this time I did it through control panel > hardware and sound > Sound and applied the default sound and communication device (separately) to the VM VAIO output through that menu. I'd tried that before but I was only doing it through the System > Sound and it didn't seem to work.

I will also note that under System > Sound > Volume Mixer I have the output device set to "VoiceMeeter VAIO" and then all instances of HELLDIVERS 2 have the output set to "VoiceMeeter VAIO" and the input to my microphone.

I guess the fix really is just to make sure that every single thing is set to the output you are using in VoiceMeeter and then make sure that output is set to the default device in the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound menu not just the "system > sound" menu. Once I had everything lined up it started working... well at least I heard someone once... but they weren't talkative, haha.

Good luck, gamers. Wish this could be pinned for all VoiceMeeter Users.

OMG! It worked! When I went into the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound option box, both my VoiceMeeter Input VAIO and my Voicemod MWD Mic were set as default (I am assuming that this was being read from the Sound options menu from Settings) but the "Set as Default" button below was lit up as if they really weren't.

Clicked the button and voila.

You're a lifesaver!

Can you point us in the direction of some of the fixes?

These videos might be of help too -- the first one is what gave me pause to try the control panel way:

yeah same ♥♥♥♥♥ happening to me, i know the mics working and the hot mic icon lights up but no one can hear me. I can hear them just fine though

I've been able to hear the voicechat from exactly one (1) other Helldiver and no one else, and when I first started playing I had to go into the control panel to hear anything other than my own microphone feedback. This is 100% a game-side issue, even if going into the control panel and changing permissions fixes it (this worked for audio but not my microphone).

I hope they quickly release a patch to improve hardware support, bluetooth headsets seem to get the worst of it. Unlike most other games, there is no in-game option to select which hardware should be used by default, so It's likely that's the primary issue.

Can't wait for the ability to berate traitors and morons for murdering a fellow soldier (me, literally every match)

I think an issue is that in the Windows Sound Control panel there is a "Default Device" and a "Default Communication Device". Be sure to mark Voicemeeter Input as the default for both on the Playback tab. Similarly mark Voicemeeter Output as the default for both on the Recording tab. (The "not hearing others" issue should be caused by the setting on the Playback tab). Will test it a bit more, but I think this solved the problem for me.

Windows key + G while in game then check that the sound is set to your headset.

So my issue was fixed. I use a mic stand but my headphones also had a mic that i dont use. If your on pc go into your audio setting and make sure you don't have conflicting mic settings in your input and output options by disabling anything you don't use. Also for some reason my mic stand was in my input and output so I disabled the output option. I immediately started hearing my fellow helldivers screams for liberty. Hope this helps.

Something to check is to make sure your mic and audio are set as default (communication) device in windows sound options.
did you change it load up the game and then it worked or did it just work

If anyone else is having the same problem, and this doesn't fix it, I have z906 speakers, and they had to be set to passthrough decoding, instead of 3d. It wants to play comms through the center channel.

Check your default audio output the same way that the instructions in this thread call for setting the default input settings.

EDIT: I had mixed up what I was trying to say.

This sounds like an output issue. Make sure your output is set to default for Helldivers 2. Could try this as well as it worked for me (although my situation was opposite - I could hear people but they couldn’t hear me).

Windows search, type change system sound, click the playback tab, scroll down and find what your headset is labeled as (mine was Realtek(R). Set that as your default and reopen Helldivers 2. The bad thing is I have to do this every time I open the game but it allows my mic to be heard
