If you have a 13th of 14th gen Intel CPU, There is a motherboard default setting causing heat and stability issues

I was getting crashes if I tired to play difficulty 4 or higher and had high cpu temps. In the last 9 months I've been having stability issues on too many games.

This game subreddit has post that fixed all my issues, and since it fixed every one of my games, I'm sharing it here:

if you go to the "Summary of Fixes from Article" steps 1-3 saved my sanity.

You can read up on what reporting led to this discovery in the post but the short of it is that motherboards are using a bad default setting for voltage, causing heat and instability problems. You can override the default 'auto' to reasonable settings. My temps dropped by 15 degrees.
