Muffled sound or no audio

When I boot up the game the sound is muffled and distorted. The last time this happened with a game it is because the game tried to use my headphones as a mic. So I tried turning the voice chat off. Nothing. Then I tried to look in the options menu to disable my mic. Not there. So I tried to find where I could choose my mic. Also not there as an option. Tried plugging in a mic into my computer to see if that would solve the issue. All that happened was now the audio was just gone and I'm assuming the game now thinks that my mic is my headphones. So I tried to choose which audio device I'm using. ALSO not an option.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue? Really not sure why neither of these are options in the menu unless I'm completely blind.

I have a similar problem. No sound in my headphones no matter what I try.
