Disappointed in the re-introduction of the Illuminates
While the initial invasion was great, including how we narrowly beat the first wave at a ludicrous 96 invasion strength. I feel that this created an opportunity that is now completely lost.

Specifically, to let the Illuminates stay "dead" for a week or so. This would allow the team to use what they learned from the invasion to fine tune the faction but also create a more interesting history of the game. Aside from tweaking the faction they could have spent the week to pump out endless amount of funny Super Earth memes and propaganda on how great the Helldivers are (even though we all know that the Illuminates ARE coming back).

Also I could see an incredible re-introduction a week from now. Just imagine for a moment that all the Helldivers are invited back to Calypso as the location where the new Illuminate threat was "defeated" to partake in a parade. Lets say a 2 hour mission that starts at the same time for everyone so if you come late you drop down in the middle of it.

The map itself would be a mixture of a parade and a monument where you can run around and see statues raised in then name of *PLAYER NAME* and with a recording of General Brash reading a speech. Lets say the first hour is just for those who wants to join in early, the speech starts at 1 hour in and runs for 30 minutes and then suddenly the Illuminates launch a new invasion MID SPEECH which results in the last 30 minutes of the map being dedicated to trying to escape to extract as ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan.

That would in my opinion be the perfect reintroduction of the Illuminates as a permanent faction on the map and much more interesting than having an increasing series of invasions happen until we can no longer prevent them from gaining a foothold.

While I agree with the missed opportunity, you simply cannot let a faction die out for a week. The discontent among the playerbase is already high and skyrocketed when the Illuminates were gone for a few hours.

If anything, they should have had new units ready to make it feel like the first wave was just a recon unit and now we get to deal with the main force which is actually challenging.
sorry but no,

as fun as this would be, lets thing like a regular JOE, they will cry that they removed only content they waited for 2 months, so tbh the way they did is still good, all tho its made purposely that we fail this MO as they need to expand, i believe we might see more Illuminate stuff at same time when the GLOOM from bug side will finally introduce new units and stuff.

yeah like bro above me said, im a 50/50 with the 1 week dissapearing of the faction, it was lore cool, but some people just wants to play squids, at least me, I dont mind them coming back, the faction itself is cool and I LOVE driving the car, so is a win for me.

There's only ever been one guy in the history of mankind who had the potential to make everyone happy, but in the end, even he got crucified, and mankind was divided over who he really was.

While I understand the desire to play the new content I still think giving a small tease and then withholding it for a bit would be beneficial. Besides, we got a new warbond as well and spent the last few days squishing squids. I am perfectly fine with taking a small detour towards the bugs and bots before the next main push for the illuminates which is going to push those two factions to the background for a very long time.

i was personally hoping for like 2 days, but i understand why they brought them back, i can see from glancing at these forums that alot of people were complaining about it and that complaining would have definetly gotten worse if they kept them gone for longer
only thing i could agree on that after CALYPSO LIBERATION they could make another MO that other factions are attacking and require attention and after its done back to SQUID.

My dude, didn't you see all the rage threads about how the devs are lazy that they removed the faction before people could play against them?

Like seriously, people were frothing at the mouth cuz they weren't allowed to shoot at pixels that look different than the other pixels we have in game.

I just think that is a good sign of people being passionate. Gamers complaining about something on a forum is kind of par for the course, hence *gestures generally at my own*

I dont think it necessarily warrants bringing the Illuminates back just to appease the fans if the alternative is to improve the experience and do it a short week from now.

The narrative is always going to take a back seat to gameplay in Helldivers - as it should. I'm personally glad that Arrowhead learned this lesson between the two games. The Illuminate led to a massive resurgence in player numbers, which was absolutely going to crash and possibly pull numbers back down to below medial if they were only available for two days. People want to fight new stuff, it's really that simple.

With that said, it's incredibly obvious that the Illuminate weren't ready for prime-time, development-wise. They have a total of what? 4 distinct enemy types? 5 if you count both Overseers? They're also replete with badly outdated design. Landed UFOs in outposts can only be destroyed via demolition - an approach Arrowhead abandoned quite a while. Similarly, Tesla Towers can also only be destroyed via Demolition, even if Sentries and Guard Dogs will waste shots firing on them - something that Arrowhead fixed for Fabricators a long time ago.

And that's without going into minutia like Harvesters aiming high and not being able to target prone players, Sentries and Guard Dogs aiming high on Voteless and Overseers, only one of the two doors on landed UFOs being available for damage, or any of the other minor stuff. I fully expected that the Illuminate would show up for the weekend, then go away for a few weeks while Arrowhead, like... finish making them?

Yeah no. Those people making rage threads were not passionate. They were whining like 5-year olds whose candy got stolen before they could eat it. Those people also didn't stick with the game and didn't realise that even the bots returned after a few days when they were wiped out.

Patience would be what they'd have if they were passionate about the game, not enraged.

If they are that fickle as you say then I dont see how you can appease them in the long-term anyways.

Thats kinda the state of any game now isn't it? You're immediately called a shill if you're not raging about every little thing in the game and call the devs lazy ♥♥♥♥♥ and what not because they didn't live up to their imaginary expectations.

It's kinda sad that some people get so mad about a game. Sure, I played squids all weekend, but last night I just kept playing something else even when they returned. It being december means I have to do my mandatory relaxed gaming and make myself a nice little village.

why wait? it's happening right now. riding on the tails of our "victory" illuminates are doing something that never happened before on the galactic map - they are winning and yet we keep the planets.
so are they raiding and leaving right after or are they actually taking planets but fooling the high command?
mog, calypso, genesis prime and bellatrix are in 4 different sectors. fish either move really fast and ignore the logistics or they can't be detected.

People were already crying about it mere hours after we beat the Illuminates on Calypso, you can't expect the poor children to survive one entire week without their beloved content!
