Tips for using the railgun against the Illuminate?
With the higher armor penetration it feels like it should be perfect but it's pretty mid. I put it on danger mode, and I'm okay at headshots. But still it was taking a bunch shots for the soldiers and heck of a bunch for the walkers. It might be the wrong tool, or I might just need only to get headshots/the big eye thing.

Are other people having this experience?

The enemies have armor plates that you need to break off first, doesn't matter if you hit them with 10k damage in a single shot as the armor takes it all

Don't aim for the eye on the Harvesters, aim for the tendon looking part of their legs (the bit that connects the longer armored parts to the body)

Hmm, gonna be tough then. Thanks!

Hmm if that's the weak spot then the Railgun is probably a bad choice. Also explains why they could just eat EAT. Thanks!

The eyes on the harvester have two small things above it that can break off and If those break off than it can't use it's shields anymore. However, hitting it in the eye doesn't do extra damage, it's just a spot that takes damage normally

The weak spot are some spots on the leg but they're much harder to hit since it moves around, has multi one shot kill attacks and you're normally swamped by zombies

Senator, AMR and Railgun "can" all 1 shot the Overseers, but lack of scope on the Railgun makes lining up your shots iffy. Headshot or backpack shot should take them down, but hit detection on all their units needs some work. Like the flying UFOs for example projectiles will just pass through them until they start hovering.

Personally I suggest just going with the Grenade Launcher, drops zombies real quick, can 2 shot Overseers. For the fliers can use Scorcher, Dominator or Purifier to drop them from the sky real quick.

Walkers are very iffy with hit detection, their lanky builds make hitting them with rockets a crapshoot. Sometimes they die in 1 hit, sometimes it takes multiple. Spear at least "can" 1 shot them, othertimes it just hurts them real bad then continued firiing from anything that can pen can finish them off. Quasar is not recommended. 500kg and Precision strikes most of the time do jack to them even when landing right on them, Orbital Lasers at least can get the job done.

Turrets are really weird against the Illuminates right now, sometimes they work fine but most of the time their aim is off and they don't target their units correctly.

Honestly, armor piercing feels really mediocre against them. You want fast firing weapons you can keep on target for everything but the Harvester and still want that for the shields on the Harvester. I basically run the Liberator to spray shields and small trash mobs with and use the grenade launcher for overseers. I can't imagine the Railgun is any good here, kinda like the Spear being pretty bad as well.

This kinda stuff is honestly just bad game design. Like I understand someone is going to say “skill issue” or whatever. But huge glowing spots have been indicators of weakpoints in games since the late 80s. What is arrowhead actually smoking?

I can play around it just fine. But it still goes against everything I’ve learned from playing games for almost 25 years.

The orbital railgun also misses the harvester half the time, or it hits a bad spot and causes them to till be alive making this an iffy pick against them as well

The orbital laser is also iffy against the illuminate because it has wonky targeting and goes off at targets that I don't consider to be high priority. I've seen it avoid the landed warpships and just chase down overseers and zombies
