just saw a Helldiver 2 Ad by 4 gaming youtubers.
not sure how I feel about this... they have the money for Ad but no money for high server capacity? and why are they trying to get more people to buy the game when it seems like they have no intention to accommodate even 25% of the copies sold on steam. (4 million according to SteamSpy.)

25% of 4m = 1million
current server capacity 450k, and some said 225k for PC and 225k for PS5.
450k / 4m = 11.25%
225k / 4m = 5.625%

although I would say the login wait feel a bit better yesterday and today, even when they mentioned nothing about server capacity increase. there are 388k people playing when I made this post.

I don't think it is about finances. The backend was not built for player counts nearly this large, so they need to spend time working on optimizing it and fixing it to be able to support increased capacity. That is my understanding at least, I am by no means an expert.

You can't just throw money at things to fix them. Some things actually take time to develop and implement

Ya'll think everyone's out to get you.

When you buy an ad slot it usually follows a contract on both parties, meaning you need to run the ad for a set duration. Highly likely they booked those slots before the game got overloaded.

Also, not sure when these videos are from, but usually YouTuber sponsorships are planned weeks or months in advance.

There's a lot of disconnected thoughts/systems in your logic.

They aren't playing ... They are radically waiting
DES-TI-NY 2024 年 2 月 20 日 下午 1:28
There is limited number of server capacity in the world not because of the server hardware but because you can only transfer so much data using existing infrastructure so you cant just get racks after racks of new servers to fix the problem, it needs to be built from ground up **especially** when you are not one with the servers as Arrowhead is using third-party for servers.

I did say I am unsure of how I feel, but do elaborate.

At this point, still thinking it's a server capacity issue can only be from willful and deliberate ignorance.

Look at the sympathizers for this game and you should understand what this companies "true success" is and why they can be considered victims of this success. Now if I could only find the definition of gas lighting lol.

Well your first mistake is the misunderstanding that the only issue is not having enough servers. When the actual issue is that their backend code was not designed to handle this many people. So they could get capacity for 10 million people and it still wouldn';t fix the current problems.

Now you could try to fault them for not thinking about that ahead of time. However they actually did, just not to this insane extent.

The first Helldivers game had a peak player count of about 5k, and about 300-600 active players at any time.

They created their systems with the thinking that they would prepare for 50k concurrent players, 10x that of the first game and had backup servers for about 250k people.

4m is a little bit more than that, so it stands to reason that they would be having issues.

Sure you can then try to argue that they should have made their backend more easily scalable. But even then these numbers are far and beyond what Arrowhead, Sony, or the Helldivers 1 community could have ever expected.

I did not "misunderstand" the issue. That is the "reason" Dev provided. "server capacity". I didn't pull it out of my butt. the Dev never mentioned it was the back-end code.

I am not faulting them for not thinking ahead. I am not feeling comfortable of them promoting more people to buy the game when they clearly can't accommodate nearly half the people so it seem.

if the back-end code have their hand tied, and fix is no where near the-near-future, then shouldn't the dev come clean about it so people don't waste time and money at this very moment?

yea. I played HD1 (too bad the player base faded) but that's really not an excuse of how things are "currently" handled.

that's what the dev said and is the result of whatever issue they have going on. or does the screen say something else for people that's waiting to get in...
Anzaman 2024 年 2 月 20 日 下午 2:13
From devs;
"Our team is working around the clock to solve these issues. While we've been able to mitigate some of the causes, we are still struggling to keep up with the scaling that is needed to accommodate all our Helldivers."

While most visible problem is the lack of player slot on servers. Games primary problem is the back-end that wasn't designed for this large amount of people to be online simultaneously. So it's struggling to scale up as they try to increase the capacity, and currently they have hit the maximum possible player cap that server can support before exploding.

And even then it's been struggling a lot over the last few days. Unable to redeem your Warbond rewards, mission rewards potentially disappearing into the void.

Blindly increase the server capacity any further than this without fixing the back-end, and we'll move from people complaining about queues and lack of server capacity to game straight up falling apart.

The company's CEO tweeted about how the backend was pushing extreme limits or something like that. I think it should be assumed that a game this successful would spend whatever money it needed to get proper servers, and if that was the only issue, it would be fixed by now.
