Auto cannon vs railgun.
Railgun is a good gun but a team of only railguns will get overrun rather quickly, the auto cannon is weaker but holds 10 rounds in it and has a back pack of more ammo, so it can quickly drop swarms of medium armored enemies rather well.

A well balanced team is a happy team. (also the railgun is non explosive so it cannot close bug holes, snipe spore towers, or snipe illegal broadcasts)

railgun mostly used for solo play, while auto cannon is normaly used for teamplay.

A team of only railguns would be fine. The support weapon isn't the only factor that determines your success or failure. Argument can be made that autocannon at high level missions is a risk since you then cannot run the shield backpack, which will save your life repeatedly in the chaotic level 7+ missions.

Autocannon is fun. My top 3 support weapons are railgun, autocannon and grenade launcher. Take the best load out depending on the mission, don't paint yourself into a corner.

railgun also has the benefit to not take a backpack slot leaving it free for something else... like a shield.

you want more shots and ammo capacity go for autocannon.

an entire team of railguns is absolutely fine, and any issue theyd face wouldnt be due to the railguns, nor would autocannons in its place make a difference on that front

you can shotgun spores, or blow them up with strikes
you can grenade or strike bug holes
and you can strike or just do 2 things on the interface to close off an illegal tower


none of those gives any real importance to auto cannon

By all means, use autocannon, its a great weapon, but its nonsense to pretend a team of railguns is going to face issues just because of that

TBH yeah shield + grenade launcher is my go-to, but I'd generally only advise a single grenade launcher per squad. It's the best hole-closing tool by a mile, but railguns deal with armor way better.

You'll need like 5 or 6 shots.

Personally I like both, I'll take the railgun if I want to carry my own backpack like shield or ammo and if I"m not carrying the grenade launcher.

I'll bring the autocannon because the gun and ammo pack are 1 stratagem, so then you can have 3 offensive strategemens for example.

They both kinda do the same thing, but they really affect your playstyle and loadout.

During a mission, we were being swarmed by dozens of acid spitters, my 2 railgun using allies kept getting over run, i was just blasting away with my auto cannon, letting my railgun using allies focus on the chargers instead.

The railgun will 100% snipe spore towers, just FYI. It's also a good all round support weapon. I prefer it to the autocannon because it has a little more precision and is more effective (in my opinion) vs robots.

Autocannon definitely has it's place though and I feel it shines better in a slightly more supporty role because of the increased AoE damage.

Not surprised i got a jester, i implied that the railgun is not the ultimate solution to every thing this game has, and people cannot handle dissenting opinions.
