Has anyone figured out what optional objectives do?
Like closing bug holes and shutting down illegal broadcasts?

Because right now it looks like all they do is give you useless currency and experience, so I just kick people from my game if I see them wasting time on them.

Is there some unwritten benefit to doing these objectives, or am I completely justified in kicking teammates for doing this?

You get bonus xp after extraction for doing them

But for people level 30 + it's pretty useless. As you have everything already that requires money. Only medals matter.

With the artillery you can shoot in the mission.
If you do the antenna objective all points of interest were shown on your map

For the enemy artillery (bots) its obvious... you dont get shooted from artillery anymore during the mission

Oh yeah, the stalker lair. Obvious, if you dont close the hole, you get harrassed by stalkers the whole mission long

If you are kicking the people who are closing up the Stalker nest bug hole... you're the problem not them. And against the bots closing up the nearby fabricators so you can get the jammer or anti-air out of your hair so your call-downs actually WORK is a thing.

its 2nd highest source of exp and req. other than that:
no , they re not entirely useless.

-radar stations reveal all locations on map, this s a must for atmospheric interference mission.
-stalker lairs, it should be in your best interest to track where stalkers coming from and eliminate lairs asap, unless you want few of them on your arse during entire run.
-seaf arty is useful for low level players without useful damage strats.

Sure, stalker lairs are good, but normal bug nests and the like seem like a complete waste of time and lives. Both requisitions and experience are useless.

Unless there's some unwritten mechanic involved in these optional objectives, it is obvious these people deserve to be kicked.

we re basically doing side stuff between us and main obj at the moment. we all like "exp is exp" it doesnt hurt, if we got 40mins missions ofc.

I don't know if you ever took the time to close all nests on a or not. By your question i assume the answer is no. Because if you would you would know the difference between a round with active nests and a round with no more active nests. But enough on that you and your kind are part of a huge problem in gaming. Always META gameplay and 1 or 2 weeks after release of a game complaining about no content in a game. How about playing a game for once? Rushing through, kicking people that play the game … you can’t make this ♥♥♥♥ up…

If you kick people for playing the game... then you are the problem. Dont join/start pugs and tell other people how to enjoy their game. Instead of outright kicking them try to communicate a solution, maybe choose which ones to go after and which ones are feasible for the cost in lives spent.

The benefit to side missions especially POI are several. While doing them you have a chance of receiving additional currency of all kinds, medals/SC/samples/req etc.
At endscreen you get additional rewards exp and req will help lower lvl players, dont be an ass and allow more sidemissions to boost them if you can afford it.

Radar side objective is pretty key, people should do it every time. It reveals all the "secret" places on the map so you can get the actual currencies that matter. Medals and space credits.

I think the only side objectives i’ve seen that don’t give benefits during the mission when you do them are the illegal broadcasting and the illegal lab

Samples spawn near objectives is the biggest reason to go to nests especially on harder mission cant upgrade your ship without them

I've tested it, I just wanted to see if anyone could confirm that it was indeed useless to attack nests and do optional objectives like the illegal broadcast.

They would get boosted faster if the mission ended faster, though? Don't hate the player, hate the game.

One core design philosophy is to reward the behavior you want to see. If the developers wanted us clearing nests, they wouldn't give us rewards that stop being relevant after level 20.

In case people weren't aware, the SEAF SAM Site is probably the best optional objective in the game as it more or less shuts down enemy reinforcements for some time afterwards in the general area.
