Which one is better in what situation?

Guard dog won't kill you, rover will.
Guard dog has to reload, rover doesn't.
Guard dog kills things faster, rover takes a bit.
Guard dog has 7 mags before it is out (45 per mag.) Rover never runs out.
Guard dog requires resupply packs to reload it, rover doesn't.

Rover is better. Guard dog blows its load and sits until you find ammo or resupply. Rover never stops working. Both will betray you at a critical moment.

Rover is better imo because it doesn't run out of ammo and it just constantly shreds small to medium bugs. I wouldn't use either against automatons though.
